LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- The California Highway Patrol recommended Monday that actress-singer Brandy be charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in a freeway crash that killed a woman motorist last month, a city attorney's spokesman told The Associated Press.

The CHP referred the matter to the city attorney's office for review, said spokesman Nick Velasquez.

"The office is currently reviewing the case and determining whether the evidence warrants the filing of a misdemeanor charge of vehicular manslaughter," Velasquez said.

A message seeking comment from Brandy's publicist, Courtney Barnes, was not immediately returned.

The charge carries a maximum sentence of one year in county jail and a $1,000 fine, Velasquez said.

Prosecutors couldn't say when they would make a decision about whether to bring a case. If charged, Brandy wouldn't necessarily have to appear in court and could have her lawyer enter a plea, Velasquez said.

They better not charge her. She wasn't drunk or high. An accident is an accident. Unless they can prove she was on a cell phone or watching her videos on a portable DVD player or twisiting her hair into braids while driving.

This isn't a first, she has been pulled up multiple times for wreckless driving and causing accidents.

How is it not a crime? An automobile is a deadly weapon when reckless. There are unintentional accidents, but if you get fines for speeding, it seems non-sensical to not get fined in some way whether it be revoking the license, a fee, or jail time, or a combination of all. She has been in trouble with this sort of thing before. She needs to learn her lesson. That's why we have punishments. One year in jail seems like a good deal for unintentionally killing someone.

I laugh at the piss poor maximum fine of $1,000.00 and 1 year in jail. ..and the person died. Driving across the country I came across signs in work zones that said if you hit (not kill, just hit) a worker you pay a $25,000.00 fine.

I'm sorry, I just don't think someone should get off clean when someone is killed. There are cases when you shouldn't be fined or jailed...but I don't know if this is one of those times.

Well, yeah, if she was speeding and has a history of speeding, then she should probably be charged or have her license revoked. But I haven't heard that she was speeding in this incident. Just sounds like the slowed traffic caught her off guard and she couldn't stop in time. Something like that accident scene in Final Destination 2.

I read that all vehicles had stopped but she kept going...

Here it comes. The family of the woman who died is suing Brandy for $50 million. What a surprise.

Old people are the worst no contest.

Do you say they're the worst, cuz they drive the speed limit or under?

Actually its proven older people are the best drivers because they've had years of experience and aren't dumbasses on the road. They get great insurance rates
