(BANG) - 'The Simpsons' star Nancy Cartwright has revealed the movie version of the much-loved cartoon show is underway.

The actress, who voices Bart Simpson, has confessed the long-awaited project is finally in pre-production after months of speculation.

She said: "We've just done the table read for 'The Simpsons' movie, so now we're actually in production."

However, Cartwright insists the film won't be ready for at least two years.

She added: "I can't talk much more about it, but it's going to be great and the fans are going to dig it."

Previously, creator Matt Groening had hinted the series, which started in 1989, would end with a big-screen adaptation.

But Groening recently revealed he had no plans on calling time on the show because it was still attracting massive viewing figures.

They - Groening & another dude - used to say it when the ratings slumped a bit just to get people interested again.

She might be telling the truth.......who knows?

I've heard the idea of the movie being mentioned, but they've never said that they started doing it until now. I'm pretty sure she's not lying

No shit. I bet that Simpsons movie will be as legendary as that Garfield movie. And yes, the show should freaking die already.

Well you have to remember that it takes 9 months to make one episode of the show, from writing to animation, it's a long process
If what you say is true then it took them 3285 months to make all the episodes (365 episodes) which is equivelent to nearly 274 years (273.5 to be exact) which means that the series were started in 1731 which happens to be the same year Martha Washington (george washingtons wife) was born..... 223 years before Matt Groening was born.

I'm not saying you're wrong... not at all. I just think that people in 1731 really really thought about our entertainment. And it's been a long long long project for them to sit down, and provide us with these episodes.

God bless them all

Man, don't be an idiot, they do more than one episode at a time, look it up if you don't believe me. As a matter of fact, I looked it up for you to save you the trouble.

Here's another one: http://www.snpp.com/other/interviews/mirkin95.html
According to that interview it takes up to 8 months to do an episode, and a year and a half to do a full 22 episode season. I thought this was a well known fact, I've heard it many times in interviews and behind the scenes shows, but I guess not
