Shirley Bassey considers Legal Action

Shirley Bassey - the singer of James Bond theme 'Diamonds are Forever' - claimed that Kanye West didn’t have permission to use her sample. The deal first got in clear when Bassey heard Kanye West was performing Diamonds at Live 8 concert and she announced that she is in legal action right now. British Daily News reported what Kanye West had to say, view below:

“I have never heard of her, I thought she was an unknown singer.”

I'm sure Kanye paid to use the sample, it's been out since last May.

she technically does not to be asked, no, but usually if an artist is asked and they object for whatever reason, the sampling artist respects that and doesn't use the sample. it's a matter of courtesy. now, i don't know if she owns any of the publishing, so that's where the legality may come into play.
