If a woman has herpes or some other venereal disease and she gives birth, can the baby get it? I mean it is rolling around all over her vag on the way out.

if its anything like aids in the way it works ... then it would be only genetical.. where if the parent has it.. the baby is 50/50 on gettin it.. just depends on the babys genetic make up, if shes prone to getting it or not

okay im six months pregnant, and from the stuff i have watched on baby shows and doctor shows it depends on what kind of infection it is. And if she has herpes, the baby wont catch herpes, but i believe that it breaks down the immune system of the child, and cause a lot of health issues. Im not positive if thats how it exactly works, but i know with certain things it can affect the child as it goes through the vaginal canal.

true, although babies born during a vaginal outbreak of herpes get scarred as they pass through the birth canal. the result is scarification that resembles stretch mark striations along the length of the infant's body.

it all depends what type of illness the mother has, but ideally pregnant women know early on if they have a std, and moreover don't get one while pregnant.

What type of scarring may the baby develop?

it really depends on when the woman had the herpes. If she had it for a long time,i would assume that she would have antibodies floating around in her blood, and that should protect the baby.If she acquired the herpes close to the end of the pregnancy, the baby is at a higher risk.

If she knows she has herpes when she's pregnant, she should have a cesarean section
