I'm registering at the local college (state) and they would like me to retake my sat's again..and im nervous because im not a good test taker. now does this mean if i score low, that i will not be able to attend the school? or does this mean it determines what classes i need to take first?

I don't know how it is for your college, but to my knowledge... generally if you score low on your S.A.Ts you don't enter college. And another thing, if you're not good at taking tests why do you want to enter college?

Good luck though

Man, just try your hardest, keep a cd player with you and listen to some music to help you concentrate, eat a good meal before you go, be positive.

yeah, i dont think you can listen to a cd player, but i could be wrong...

and there's one rule of thumb for this shit...eliminate answers..a.s simple as it may seem, i gotta take this and the ACT soon...and eliminating answers helps alot...

buy a guide as well, and do it for 3 hours a day till the test...take the practice tests and read the lessons for math, if that's the part you fuck up at alot...

now are you smart and not a good test taker, or....?

my problem is that i can read a book and respond quickly in any written test..but multiple choice questions give me a hard time. i over think the answers and second guess myself everytime- so test taking like that becomes pretty hard for me...but if say they had an essay portion i'd kill it. but this college won't offer that..its just reading math and science...i just hope i can make it in because i have mad grants waiting on that decision

mmmm...i think the essay section is mandatory on all SATs...its on the ACT where you can choose if you want it or not...

and like i said, go to a prep course, or get a prep book...it'll help you with all that shit....

for that one problem you said above....preview questions, read story, read question not answers, refer to lines given, formulate your own answer, and then pick the answer that resembles yours the most..

you can prep yourself for the format, but not the content.

the simple truth is that the test examines your overall knowledge among what is deemed to be your cohort, and therefore you can't suddenly learn a thousand vocab words because you sluffed off over the years in english class.

it's very simple. be rested and don't second guess yourself. you want to finish the test, so read a question, eliminate the obvious wrong answers, and then select the best answer. i didn't prep a lick for it and i completely killed that son of a bitch, but then again i'm the smartest person on the planet.

i thought the act test was more challenging than sat, and depending what colleges you're applying to, you may look into that test as an alternative. likewise, think of it this way... you really DON'T want to get a whizz bang score that's super high if it doesn't represent your natural level. you want the test to be accurate in assessing your levels. why? say you luck out and get a super high score that's really not a good barometer of your levels, you will go to a school that relies on this base level and if it's not you, trust me, you WILL fail. the test is to examine you, so let it do its work.

lmao

Yeah, I don't know if there's more I can say that Dante didn't. When it comes to the math section, don't get nervous. You most likely already know all the math you need to get those problems. It's just a matter of not panicking and thinking it out logically.

If they want you to take it again, it probably means that you did more than well enough in school for them and they want you to come there, but your scores weren't high enough for them. If you score lower it doesn't mean you won't get in, but it would erase any questions if you scored higher.

definitly take one of them courses. they teach you alot of methods to eliminate and give you alot of hits. for example in the math sections if you dont know how to do a problem you can try plugging the answers in untill the equation becomes true.... tons of little tricks like that you can learn. most of them gaurtee like 100 point increase or the course is free

the test is just money making scheme at the expense of students fees for test, test prep material, prep courses...there are plenty bright students who arent good test takers and this cheats them of a chance to go to there desire college and theres dummies who just get lucky random bubble in the correct letter and get a high scores...at least now they have an essay part but still the test is scam sham...sorry u have to take it again

lol you must be on crack...
so being that colleges are clearly ranked, how would you propose creating admission standards? on the subjectivity and inconsistency of grades? sorry, but people who bitch about anything but cultural biases with regard to standardized testing are barking up the wrong tree.

and btw, there is little or no chance involved. the odds of guessing the right bubble among 10,000 questions is reduced down to a 1 in 5 chance, which would result in a very low score.
