Never seen Sanford and Son, but it surprises me that it appeals to young people while Steptoe and Son (the original British series) doesn't.

if you've never seen it then you better catch some shows over the weekend because your missing out on some Classic Comedy!

There are quite a few classic American sitcoms that are remakes of/based upon British sitcoms.

Til' Death Do Us Part became All in the Family, Man About The House (and it's spinoffs George and Mildred and Robin's Nest) became Three's Company (and it's spinoffs The Ropers and Three's A Crowd) and One Foot in the Grave was the basis for Cosby.
