it is obvious that its not a battle beat, but it is closer to that than anything else in my opinion. the theme is eerily high-energy and that, in my mind, warrants some high-energy rhymes.
but the lyrics still fit the beat, im just saying it could use with some screaming of the rhymes or something
and the samples dont add a style to it. you could put them on a soft beat and it would sound the same.
the thing is, put some gangsta type samples on a hard(ish) beat and you will suspect the producer put it there because he wants that particular phrase to merge with the beat. so in this case, it will sound like the rhymes will be from the gangsta perspective. but if you put the samples on a softer beat, you will expect the rapper to rap about how bad the gangsta shit is and all the circumstances etc.
this is just sort of an anti-climax, is all im saying.
anyway, great song overall rukas, looking forward 2 mo (to more
)
