Rude or Standing Up For Yourself?

Big Meeting.
Going to be long.
Going to be boring.

30 Chairs.
I arrive early pick out a comfortable chair.
After trying several I decide on the one I'd like and wait patiently for the meeting to start.

People talking about nothing.
People stuffing themselves with free snacks.
Meeting is about to start.
People hurry to seats.

One lady with three plates and juice walks over to me.
Asks me to trade seats with me once the meeting has started.
Says her seat is "bad for her back"
Stands over me expectantly.
I get up and trade seats with her to not cause a scene.

My chair was cushiony, comfortable, leaned back and was great.
Her chair is a stiff peice of crap with no cushion.

She sat her fat ass around eating for half an hour.
Missed the chair she wanted.

However, I would've been considered in the wrong had I not relenquished my chair to her.

Would I have been?

No, but at these long ass boring meetings...you know to find a comfortable chair because you'll be there awhile.

I said no originally and then she started whining about her back in a very loud whisper so I just got up. People were starting to stare

it wouldn't be rude at all. what is rude is expecting someone else to give up their chair cuz they were too lazy to get there early and get a good seat. i would have told her no, get your own chair fatass, but then again i'm an asshole

i would have said no. would have said i have been waiting on this chair for a while and if she wanted a good chair well she just had to go find one instead of buying all this food. also would have made up the excuse that i have back problems just in case i'd seem rude.

when you have back problems, you make sure you have a good chair instead of getting food.

By people around you, you would have been considered rude. Depending on the lady's position within the company relative to your position, declining could have caused a slight problem. You chose to relinquish your seat because you didn't want to cause a scene. It shouldn't be viewed as if you didn't stand up for yourself or 'got punked'.

I thought about that, but I didn't know who she was and/or who she knew so I just got up. But I was really pissed about it. Originally I was like "Excuse Me" with an incredulous look like are you serious? And then she got loud about her back so I just got up. I'm still pissed though
