I posted this in another thread.
Thought I'd give it it's own topic.

1 of my favourite hip-hop acts is Roots Manuva, he is more into the music than the image. And he tries to be original with his beats, flow and lyrics. His voice and flow reminds me a little of Rakims, but I'll probably get flamed for that comment. He also is more likely to be rocking prada than hoodies or Sean John, he doesn't need to buy into the image.

I'm gonna upload his track for people to listen to and say what they think.

Roots Manuva - collossal Insight

It's pretty diverse, but I like it.

Lyrics follow. (Helps with the accent)

Roots Manuva - Collossal Insight

Collossal Insight invites the soul
The study of the good book
Collossal Insight Invites the soul

Gracious Lord my Mega almighty
I know I been slightly
Outta your path
Feeling the cold draught
Of the bleak winter
Splinters in my soul
I'm out of control
And I know
That I should cut down this drinking
Too many late nights and wayward thinking
Compelling a man to plan to shenanigans
They're boying me out I got to be the man again

Cos I didn't rhyme to get me rich
But I'm a scally
Two twos you'll find a switch
Hurt and pain made me
Nothing came to save me
I walk with disaster
Prefer to be plastered
Time's my master
Don't ask me for Jack turd
All I own is my balls and my word
Nobody heard of me
Cos I'm a new man
I've got this new plan
To get these new grands

People call my name
Like it's kind sort of game
Like I ain't got no fame
Like I'm just the same type
Shouting out vain lights
Move your lurgy
I'm far too nervy
Observing this world
Who the weirdo
What the how the
Media whores keep shovelling powder
It's nothing to be proud of
But stuff goes on
Perceptions change
Wrong's right and right's wrong
Hoop the hoopla-ing
Devil keep snarling
Buy it buy it sell it sell it
This could well be my last LP
I've had a good run
I've made a few G's
I've had a bag of fun
I've smoked a few trees
Now I wanna rest my knobbly knees
All in all I've been feeling the pinch
And those bourgeois blacks have been far from convinced

But I don't give a damn about UK rap
I'm a UK black
Making UK tracks
And I've got love for every one of those scenes
And those pigeon holes were never nothing to hold me

Dreamy Days is a nice song & one that, IMO, had a little bit of commercial appeal with it's cool melody.

Sinny Sin Sins is a dope song.

Have never purchased a Roots Manuva album (shame on me) but the tracks I've downloaded - like 12 - have all been at least average with a few being pretty good.

On the whole, I do prefer the US accent but Roots has nice beats & good topics.

Can't talk about Colossal Insight as yet as I've downloaded too much from RapidShare currently.

In summary, Roots Manuva is a good rapper & one who I think could appeal to foreigners.....that & I'm a cheapskate

lol that witness song, was it witness the fitness, and in the video hes at a kids sports day and basically wins all the events
