I cant belive most seem to think Beckam does a good job for england! I think he used to, a very long time ago. For me beckam has never had a great world cup or europian championship yet! In 98 he was doing fine up till he kicked out, got sent off, and that was englands chances over(His fault nobody else's). Then he came back to england and got crucified. In 2002 he was'nt fit so he should'nt have been there, he should have relised this. Beckam for me is still an alright player, but he aint half the player he was. 10 years ago he covered every blade of grass.

Agreed. But IMO he's Terry's replacement, those two together wouldn't have enough pace and we'd be forced to defend deep.

Carragher and Terry are too similar to play together. You need one no-nonsense defender who makes the tackles and throws himself in front of shots (i.e. John Terry or Jamie Carragher, and one defender who can pick up the scraps and then distribute the ball (i.e. Rio Ferdinand or Ledley King).

United play Rio and Brown or Rio and Vidic, because they work better together than Brown and Vidic would.

I see what you are saying.but Terry and Carragher both distribute the ball well,and are better defenders that Ferdinand.You go with the best players you have at your disposal and in England's case it is Carragher and Terry.

They may distribute it "well" but do they distribute it better than Rio? No. I don't think Terry's or Carragher's ball skills are anything to shout about. And we could do without out the Bolton tactics of hoofing it 60 yards up the pitch.

Obviously Rio is better with the ball at his feet than them but both possess enough skill to play the ball out of defence, and anyway its unlilkely they'll be creating attacks a lot especially with Lampard and Gerrard infront of them.

Another advantage of having Rio is that he has pace, which Terry and Carragher lack. They're all good defenders and its a great dilemma to have. But Rio and Terry would easily my first choice pairing.
