Cristiano Ronaldo has ended speculation over his future by finally signing a new deal at Manchester United.

The Portuguese ace has signed a two-year extension to keep him at Old Trafford until 2010.

United have been locked in talks with Ronaldo all summer in a bid to tie him down to a new long-term deal.

Ronaldo has proved to be a major hit with The Red Devils since joining the club as a teenager from Sporting Lisbon two years ago and news of his new deal will come as a major boost for Sir Alex Ferguson.

The 20-year-old was delighted to pledge his future to United.

"I am very happy and proud to finally put a deal on paper," Ronaldo told the club's official website.

"It is important for the development of my career and I want to be an integral part of the team that achieves trophies for the club."

Ferguson was pleased to resolve Ronaldo's future and he follows the likes of Darren Fletcher, Paul Scholes and John O'Shea in signing new deals.

"It represents our faith in young players at the club and Ronaldo will develop into a fantastic player," said Ferguson.

"We have worked hard over the last six months on securing a contract, there were no problems but with his agent being in Portugal it was all to do with timings.

"This is great news for the club and for the fans."
