I went to see him in concert last night at the MEN in manchester and i have to say i was impressed.

I bought tickets as a suprise for my boyfriend, and wasn't sure what to expect, but he was really good!!

My favourite song of the night was "Drug's don't work" he has one hell of a voice and put so much emotion in!

Anyone see him?

That's not a Richard Ashcroft solo track, it's by his old band The Verve. Did he do "Bittersweet Symphony" also?

You lucky fuck :( That's my favorite song by him. I'm not sure if you meant that you weren't familiar with him before the concert but if you weren't, also check out his old group The Verve ("The Drugs Don't Work" is off their Urban Hymns album).

EDIT: Curse you Militant!

The verve are my fav band of all time, Stone roses are a very close second.Although ashcroft music since the verve has been good imo he has'nt ever hit the heights that the verve hit! I actually like the verves early music more than urban hymes, thats not to take anything away from UH which is a masterpiece, it's just that i like the darker sound from Northern soul and Storm in heaven.Songs like a northern soul,no knock on my door, all in the mind, make it till monday i also love the rock anthems like Blue, slide away, this is music, and obviously love the beutifull songs like History,on your own.Lifes an ocean. Ashcroft is 34 now though so he was hardly gonna keep doing real dark music! mind you plenty other rock stars do well past that age!Bring back The Verve they would imo be the best band on the planet.

I own all the verve singles and they are all worth buying, there are classic b sides scattered everywhere.

Here is an example "So sister"

Not a big fan of The Verve at all.
Can understand why you would'nt like there darker music, but you dont like Bitter sweet symphony/lucky man/Sonnet/History? each to there own but for me Bitter sweet and History are two of the best songs to come outta the UK in the last 20 years.

It really is worth trying to get some live footage of the verve from 92/93, then you could really see why they called him mad richard, the dude whilst on stage was off his fuckin head!! an i dont just mean on drugs, that aint no big deal, just the way he was, well you just have to see it to know what im talking about.

Just for the record im sure most the UK folks know this but The verve never made 1 pence from Bitter sweet symphony! They had used a tiny little riff from a rolling stones song which you can hardly even hear, but were asked to remove it or not make any cash! ashcroft was obviously fuming but thought that the track was perfect so did'nt want to remove or add anything to the song, so that was that. Ashcrofts only response was jagger an richards aint written a song as good as Bittersweet since the sixties.

they did make money, from advertisments which featured the tune, which the verve donated to shetler(homeless charity) and done a gig there, instead of the brit awards(considering they were almost if not bigger than oasis at time which was nuts)

its funny now though cause mostly all the members apart from tong, sailsbury and ashcroft are skint, nick mccabe(genuis) the gutarist sold all his gear

and btw - most of urbans hymns is ashcroft solo but i guess the other members did add their vibe

check out the song 'History'

If you can overlook the fact that dude has been responsible for some of the filthiest examples of plagiarism in the industry, Break the Night with Colour is an unfuckwitable joint.
