It's not about seriousness or not. It's about respect. It's about consideration. It's about a community that is built on so many different cultures, ideas, religions. Hitemup, 2pacboard or streethop has grown so big since it's inception due to the diversity of it's members.

I came to this site so ignorant of many things. I used to visit WoW every day, and I can't believe how much it changed my thinking. It's a gateway of information. It's a gateway for internet socialisation.

Anyone who says that online communities are any different than offline communities is in denial.

It might be true that reps are nothing but reps. However, it's a way of displaying ones displeasure in someones comment.
