...or summin like that. The question i've got is who was fucking around with them to warrant the removal and why didn't the admins just remove that particular members?

In my opinion, they were good as they allowed you to see what posters liked your posts and why. They were definitely a good addition to the board and i don't understand why everyone loses the privilege (so to speak) cos of some people fucking around. We dont remove the post count cos _carmi freeposts do we D)?

Or is it just another bandwidth cutting exercise, as i suspect?

Any chance of re-introducing them? Sign your name if you want them back. E-petitions always work!

People didn't rep people who deserved it. People were repped just becuase they were part of an e-clique. There was also a rep mafia group banning people through negative reps when it was unwarrented. They didn't work, so they have been removed. People were too powerful and members were banned by neg reps in 5 clicks. Not really fair is it?

Unfortunately a few spoiled it for the majority, same with VIP exclusives.

Obviously i don't know the ins and outs but i thought it did work for the majority of members, just the idiots who need the net fame.

i didn't have a problem with fetting rid of the reps, but some kind of announcement or warning that they were being taken away should have been posted, it seems unfair to take them away without any notice whatsoever. plus it would have prevented threads with people asking, what happened to the rep points?

I don't know what difference notice would have made. A decision was made and acted upon.

well considering that when things are changed here, theres usually an announcement made about it, it doesnt seem fair that this wasn't announced. it almost seems like you guys were purposely sneaky about it and didn't want to tell people about it. and as far as the first part of your post here, those people are "poor" posters? says who? the purpose of the rep system was to rep people for posts they made that you liked. if you didn't like so and so's posts, they automatically are poor posters to you? well obviously some people disagreed with you, otherwise they wouldn't have as many reps as they did.

the accusation of being "sneaky" is laughable. did you think that admin would just remove all the dots and no one would notice?

the problem is that without a cap, as pittsey said, people become too powerful. i think i had the second or third largest amount of rep points, and i actually had people who i didn't even know sending me instant messenges asking me to neg rep someone they didn't like (so they'd accrue more neg reps at a faster rate). while i did like being able to see users who may be questionable or assholes based on the red, i'll admit that it was all kind of stupid after it seemed like everyone who posts regularly had a max displayed rep. i suppose an option would be to revise the scale of the reps, requiring a lot more reps to graduate to the next dot/level, but in the end it's a system that can be abused (and if it can, it will).

ho hum. back to probation and bans instead of red dots.

well the fact that no announcement was made about this, when any other changes are announced, makes it seem like you guy felt you had to hide it before you did it. obviously people are going to notice. and i agree wth pretty much everything you said. the system was abused, no question about that, and maybe they should be gone. i have no problem with that one way or the other. my only beef was, like i said, there was no announcement made that this was happening, and it seemed kinda shady to me, thats all.

The rep system was pointless anyway, if you merely post here for a few days your rep is going to already go up to 11 green blocks and then it doesn't go up anymore, just your points. So then once it gets to that point, we don't even know eachothers rep so we just hope when people rep us we climb up above other people on the reputation list.

It's a valid point, maybe to make it more useful the actual points could be displayed, this way we can keep on top of anyone who seems to be constantly rising.
