Rene & Angela had some of the biggest and best R&B hits of the 80's, yet never seem to get their props for the jams they made, even though I bet you'll all recognise the grooves on these jams from famous hip-hop tracks.

Maybe because they've fallen apart before I was even born so it's not like their career was long. However I'm sure most people know these songs and like them. I often hear them on the radio.

I never heard both of these songs before and I usually have of the 80's and 90's.

I'm guessing they were never that popular.

It's hard to listen to those songs when you had so much better ones in the 80's...

Never that popular? I dunno what radio stations you've been listening to Shadows but these songs were HELLA popular. Classic, like masta said. Especially on the West Coast where funk has it's biggest fanbase.

Anyway, in case you couldn't figure out who sampled them, Biggie and Jay-Z sampled "I Love You More" for "I Love The Dough" from the Life After Death album, and they actually got Angela Winbush to resing the chorus too. And Foxy Brown, again with Jay-Z sampled "I'll Be Good" for "I'll Be" from Foxy's Ill Na Na album.

Jay-Z himself used another Rene & Angela song, "Imaginary Playmates" for his song "Imaginary Playa" which was from the "Streets Is Watching" soundtrack. Guess he's a fan.

the beat/melody on "I love you more" is super cool and laid back. A really nice track. I always thought that this type of music was hella popular in the US. That's one of the reason I though that the 80s in America must have been awesome since here we only had local music in the 80s and it was in the 90s when I first heard American funk/r&b etc.
On the other hand I've heard that American 80s and 90s tv series that were hella popular here weren't that popular amongst everyone in the us.

By the way why do people add carets ("^" signs) before their statements? I often see it but forget to ask lol. We use that sign only in maths.

^lol dumbass.

It basically means "I'm addressing you, the fellow poster above me". That way, we don't need to get unnecessary posts and bad Taxi Driver impressions like, "are you talking to me?"

I think the 80's was the greatest decade of modern history, especially in the US.

The concept of capitalism was working a whole lot better back then, MTV was brand new and played music videos (which were also a fairly new concept) all day long. Funk & R&B ruled the airwaves, there was a lot more people making interesting original music that was still commercial and accessible.......ahhhh the 80's.

I wish I had been born a few years earlier so I remember more of it.

The 90's were pretty shit overall compared to the 80's. And don't get me started on the 00's, I am so fucking amped that in three weeks time we're finally shot of this fucking garbage ass decade.

I think the 10's are gonna be motherfucking awesome. 10's is gonna be a seriously bad ass decade IMO.
