In the post 9/11 world, I've noticed that some people have gotten very hesitant about criticizing Islam. Now, you'll say, "No way man, just go to the closest bookstore", but I mean the common people. In the state I live in, people tend to be very liberal and some believe that criticizing a person's religion is offensive and discriminatory. I don't agree.

Like Mr. Bean :) said, you should be free to criticize an idea (Islam) regardless of whether there are millions of people who sincerely believe in to be absolute truth.
 
criticizing what other people believe in as long as its not detrimental etc is irrational also. Maybe not so much as races but its just on a level of you dont attept to take any thing away from someone that they believe in. its an attempt to take a piese of ones soul

Personally I support all religions that r of monotheism

Actually, criticizing religion for the reasons you mentioned would be liberal, not the other way around. Liberalism =! Political Correctness.

But anyway, I agree 100%. Despite its apparent irrationality at many times, I tend to understand it on some levels because of the heavy influences that must have been present to create those systems of beliefs (parents, etc.). It's hard to not believe in something your parents push on you from your youth, or something that gives you hope or relief. With that being said, however, I cannot accept religion as an excuse for taking a certain political stance. Political beliefs should be separated from religion at all times; it should be logic, reason, and emotion that guide people's political beliefs. Religion can obviously have an impact on those feelings and mental capacities, as well it should, but it should never be the reason in and of itself.
 
I think I went off on a tangent.

Sure, criticize their beliefs. Criticism is the way to progress. If we don't question something's validity or capability, we remain stagnant as a people.
 
you should be able to criticize what the fuck you want in a free country. however, life is not white or black. its grey. i think you can criticize anything as long as you do it politically correctly.
 
Religion should have no special rule for criticism. In our free societies we should be able to criticize irrational beliefs, should we be PC about telling children that santa and the tooth fairy don't exist?

wouldn't the politcally correct thing to do be not criticizing because you wouldn't want to offend someone of a specific religion?

It's not right to criticize, but I guess I have double standards just on the whole fact of criticizing a person, religion, or anything for that matter.

I think you see criticizing as negative to begin with. Think of it not as criticizing, but analyzing good and bad things about it.

yeah your right about that..i think i would really need to think about this some more..u know how someone asks u something and you say something without thinking it through all the way because u havnt thought about it before because its something new to u? well i dont really have that much of an opinion because i havnt thought it all the way through..something that i need to do..
