Non-Urban Music Recommendation: Jeff Buckley

Excellent singer with some great songs (although he does have his fair share of shitty songs). Very sad he died.

I recommend you listen to his album Grace, which contains one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard "Hallelujah", a remake of the song by Leonard Cohen (which is absolutely horrid). There's not a weak track on the album. My personal favorites are "Hallelujah", "Dream Brother" and "Lover, You Should've Come Over".

And a bunch of assorted tracks:

Everybody Here Wants Youv
Forget Her
Nightmares by the Sea
Opened Once

"On the night of May 29, he and a friend traveled to the local Mud Island Harbor, where Buckley spontaneously decided to go swimming in the Mississippi River and waded into the water fully clothed. A few minutes later, he disappeared under the waves; authorities were quickly contacted, but to no avail -- on June 4, his body was finally found floating near the city's famed Beale Street area."

I heard some rumours that there was something fishy about the whole thing (that he didn't just drown) but that's the official story.

I'm glad someone on this board actually knows who Jeff Buckley is. He has the most amazing voice I've ever heard and his song writing is unbelievable. He's definitely my favorite solo artist and no one comes close to his overall ability.

I'd also recommend: Lost Highway, Last Goodbye, Lilac Wine, Dream Brother, Satisfied Mind, and Grace, on top of all the songs Chronic mentioned.

Chronic = repped

Chronic, yes, I thought Buckley was God for a good six months in '04. Grace is one of the best albums of the late 90s.

That had to be shocking for the fans. He probably would've been much bigger if he was still alive.

I agree. Even now, not many people know of Jeff Buckley, nor do they know about his uncanny talent and song writing skills. It's such a shame, because I believe that Jeff is the type of artist that should be heard by everyone. He's truly someone who can, and has, touched many people on so many levels.

Dammit, if I was gay, he'd be the man I'd go after haha :D
