Sony has issued a new patent for the PS3 which would block the console from playing used, rented or borrowed videogames. Great. All the more reason to go out and fork over $600 of your hard earned American dollars.

They've had the patent since 2000, but now since the PS3 is going to be released in the coming months, it has been brought to the limelight. An article in the LA Times is pretty much responsible, and the reporter has tried to talk to Sony and she couldn't get a word out of them.

But, is this all together a bad move? Will something like this, although a little smarmy, totally dissuade people from investing in the awesome that is the PS3? Or will it prove to be a smart business move on Sony's part?

I don't think it would stop the diehard gamers from getting one and it will still sell well. I can just see so many scenarios when this thing won't work, like if your ps3 fucks up and you get it exchanged, then would that render all your current games useless? I doubt that will be the case tho.
So is this a definate feature that Sony have confirmed?If not I suspect Sony will scrap this idea before release

Personally i think it will take a back seat to XBOX 360, just as XBOX did with PS2 because of its late release. However I think in its later years the PS3 will make a comeback because the features they took time to include will take time to build upon...

blah blah blah , what the fuck would i want to google shit for , re-read my post , then post a legitimate source. That means post a link to something that is reliable. If it was from L.A Times then there should be physical evidence , take a picture of the article , or otherwise get a link to the article.
