Its just two different ways of doing it. The 512 is in my opinion better, because it gives the developer the oppertunity to code, lets say, 400 for graphics, and 112 for processing in certain areas where as the PS3 bottle necks itself at 256.

You are right,there are 2 ways of doing it, you can combine or split the memory and no developer cant use 400 for graphics and 112 for processing, becouse 256mb is used for the system AND vram ONLY so the developer has only acces to 256 himself.
