Technology problem with ftp

i got this problem: when i try to download something from my internet provider's ftp, all my downloads never last longer than 1-2 minutes. at first the speed is good, then it starts to decrease and stops. the download dissapears. then i hit download button again and resume it, for a minute it starts and finishes again.it's impossible to download neither a movie nor a single song. what could be the problem. I'm using smart ftp now, earlier was filezilla.

your internet provider's ftp? what do you mean? your service provider hosts the content that you're trying to download? please clarify.
