Preventing a cold... what do u do?

Alright... you know that stage where you can just feel a cold coming on and you haven’t crossed the point of no return just yet… but you’re heading there slowly as time ticks by. And you really don’t want to be sick because you can’t afford to.
Everybody has their own methods of avoiding the cold. For some people it works for some people it doesn’t.
Last night I tried a few of these suggestions to see which ones work…
Mum said try Tea with ginger
Dad said try tea with garlic
Brother said try tea with honey and lemon
So I tried tea with ginger, garlic, honey and lemon all at the same time (and oh my god the taste is the worst tasting thing I’ve ever had in my life… but I manne

Then my brothers father in law suggested when I go to bed have a glass of hot water and then have the sheets all around me, with my heater on full blast so I can sweat it out. It was actually quiet pleasant, like a sauna… but difficult to sleep. But that said, I slept really well last night.

Friend suggested drinking a lot of orange juice and having a lot of vitamin c. So I’ve had about 5 litres of orange juice in the last 12 hours and I’ve popped heaps of vitamin C tablets.

Another friend suggested drinking heaps of water, and quite honestly I’ve had 6 bottles (800ml so all up, about 5 litres) and I’ve never been to the bathroom so often in my life.

I’ve had a shit load of green and black tea since getting to work. No coffee, no cigarettes…

Anyway, so far each have been ok… I’m not sick yet which is a good thing. I’m popping cold and flu tablets (herbal tablets) as well…

So any suggestions people?

I take Horseradish and Garlic tablets, can get em at the chemist, they work really well for me but if your already full on sick it doesnt work so well. But keep on with the water, it helps more than anything else.
 
Because i've got a busy week at work and i need to get shit done. It's nothing stressful or anything, but i just need it to be done.

Plus this weekend is my adelaide weekend and i need to be 100% healthy because i plan on rocking out hard!

Generally speaking i don't care... but right now... i can't afford to be sick!
So dammit... i'm going to fight this.

Artistic girl i went and got some echinacea defense tablets which has horse radish and garlic in it including zinc and vitamin e and c.

I'll be hitting the sauna tonight as well... just to sweat the fuck out.
 
Go to the red dot store, get you some Rock N Rye (or get some corn liquor), put it in a cup with some honey and lemon juice, drink it all (doesn't even hafta be a big cup either), get in the bed and cover up. You will sweat it all out. Works everytime for me.
Vitamin C tablets are good too. As you get older you should take vitamins daily anyway to keep up your immune system but when you feel a cold coming on, dose up on vitamin C, it's the best defense for colds.

Yeah that should do the trick. Seriously though you are pumping your body full of every "cure" there is, if you still get sick you were just really unlucky haha Remember to keept he fluids up ;) C U @ Fab :D
 
haha... i've been going to the bathroom every 15 minutes... it's just ridiculous now.
And i'll probably have a swim before i hit the sauna too. That should be enough excercise to push out whatever fucker i have in me and to boost up my blood flow/immune system.

This cold doesn't control me... i control the cold... and the heat... (ok bathroom time... again)...
 
to PREVENT a cold is very simple. never touch your eyes or mouth without washing your hands first, always get enough rest, avoid going from extreme temperature changes rapidly (an air conditioned room, to the hot outdoors, and back), take a daily vitamin (some people also supplement zinc into their diet), avoid hospitals and health clinics unless necessary, avoid close quarter environments such as buses or subways, and eat regularly and smart.
 
drink tea, get your Vitamine C up, stay at home, go to bed early enough and make sure you're warm enough. That's about u can do, sometimes it won't be possible to avoid a cold....
 
Yeah i've been washing my hands heaps (simply because i'm in the bathroom every 15 minutes). I'm not any worse than i was this morning but i'm not better either.
I'll probably take tomorrow off so i can get a full nights rest and be away from everything.
 
i dont get it. you're in the sauna, then bathroom and you manage to go on the computer? anyways good luck.

when i get a cold, the cold doesnt bother my life, i bother the cold til it decides to get the fuck outta me.
 
No, i'll be going to the pools for a swim after work. And after that i'll be hitting the sauna for a while.
And bathroom is just like a regular trip every 15 minutes! I come back to my desk to do work... (and post on SH)

heres somethin bigmack told me when i asked the same q.. i havent had a cold since i asked (october)

get yourself a multivitamin.The best one i advise is called Megamen.You can get it from GNC and its cheap for the amounts of vitamins it has.Take 2 in the morning.If you get another name brand vitamin,make sure it says "timed release on it".

Then you need to take vitamin C.The capsules are also really cheap.Take 3 grams in the morning,2 grams in the afternoon and 2 grams in the everning.Id suggest you get the 1000mg(1g) capsules because you dont have to take as much capsules.Make sure the type of vitamin C is Ascorbic acid.Theres different kinds,so ask for this type.

ALso one more vitamin you have to take.Its called B-Complexe 50.This is a mixture of all the B vitamins.You take one capsule.Make sure its 50mg capsule not more or less.


If you do this as soon as you feel a cold coming,then you will kill the cold.I've been doing this for 3 years,and I have never had a cold yet.Everytime i feel it coming i take this mix of vitamins and within a few days im back to normal again and don't feel the cold no more.You might want to continue on the vitamins for a few days after you feel normal,because the cold might still creep up on you.

One thing you will notice is your piss will be a light yellow or neon yellow color.Dont worry about that,thats from the b complexe vitamins,totally normal.

Once you buy these vitamins,you will have them for next time you feel a cold,so its really really cheap.

The worst thing you can take is cold medicine.That shit has ephedrine in it,which will increase your heart speed and it really doesnt work.It has some shit they use in asthma medicine which will widen your pipes for your nose and throat. It will artificially make you feel like the cold is gone,but the cold is still there,and you keep taking the medicine until the cold goes on its own.

I lost.... I was feeling fantastic last night... i thought i was over it... then i went to bed... woke up in the morning... and bam... i was sick as a dog... THOSE BASTARRDS...

ok the question has changed...
how do u reduce the duration of a cold. any suggestions
