Yo, man.

Those page-long replies to bullshit threads...

they got to go. I simply don't want to hear it.

i agree.

just because you smoke hash and while you are high you think you are some smart philosophical thinker, you simply are not. please stop with the rants cockboy.

go start a blog

at least get a diary

Then you have the simple option of scrolling past it.

I do not consider myself some philosophical thinker. I think and i say my thoughts lol. Your assumptions are worthless.

To SOFI i'm not gonna say much. I like you. Besides that, you don't masturbate and you're a guy. STFU. To Scruffy i'll say that yeah okay. I choose not to respond in a challenging manner. I'll post whatever I feel like posting when I feel like posting it lol. STFU2.

good work. there was less waffle in this one, and you got straight to the point.

I have a question, Preach. Since you're Norwegian, I'm hoping you are familiar with the name Nyssa. Are you? It means "friendly elf" in Scandinavian culture. Anyway, what is the correct pronunciation of the name? Is it like Neesa or is the "e" not as long? Audio would do quite well, if you could.

LOL.

seriously, i have never heard of that, but it would most likely be pronounciated "nyss-ah" like that.

edit: did some further investigating.

wiki says "nissa" is the correct norwegian way to spell it. this is wrong. it's "nisse", "nissa" is plural in dialect. in southern norway they'd say "nisser". the base form of the word is "nisse", which traditionally is used to desribe an elf-like creature. like santa's helpers, not like your typical forest elf. "nissen", which basically means "the nisse" means "santa claus".

Well, the girl's parents are Norwegian and she was born here. They gave her the name and they say it's pronounced "Nyss-ah" but even they are not sure. So, it seems to me that they either didn't care for the right spelling of the name, did not know about the correct spelling, or wanted to spell it in their own weird americanized way?

PS. I would rep, but it says I can't again.

it's not nyss-ah as in nyzza as in wazaaaaaaaaap. how do i put this lol. i could try and get audio with some time but for now uh. in norwegian, the word is masculine and does not end with an "a". in my particular dialect, i would say "nissa" if i was talking about several of them, if not, "nisse". could be a way to feminisise the name too though, because like i said, in norwegian, grammatically, the word is a masculine word.

but if her name is indeed "nissa" it's no point calling her "nisse" lol. so to answer your question, it's like "niss sah" (as in "elliot ness" and the "sa" in "salar") as two standalone words but without a pause in the middle

Yeah, I got it as far as the pronunciation goes. The thing is, "Nyssa" does appear on the list of Scandinavian baby names, at least on the internet.

Then they changed it for the sake of being a name. The word from whence the name came from I have correct. It is not a name i have ever encountered a person who bears, not in Norway, Sweden or Denmark. It is very possible that Finland use the name though. Knowing the general sound of their language, that would actually make sense for them to call it "nyssa". There is also a Santa Claus attraction in Finland and it's internationally known as far as I know, so Finland has a special tie to Santa Claus somehow.

Finland and Iceland have comparable languages. The native Saami in Norway speak a very similar language, but they do not understand one another. Icelandic i think is an off-shoot of ancient Norwegian. Those three languages get put in the same booth though. Since the real Saami live on the snow covered plains of northern Norway, trekking over the borders with their reindeer herds, and they don't have their own country, and since Iceland is so small, it's really only Finland who have that fucked up type of language. Norwegian, Swedish and Danish are all very similar to each other, and not so much to Finnish/etc.

Damn it. I couldn't help it. I am helping you so you better accept a long post. I am painting the picture that calling it a Scandinavian name is like saying "Pablo" is a common north American name.
