Power 105.1FM taking positive steps.

Power 105.1 fm in NY is now taking a responsible stance in the music they play as a reaction to the Don Imus situation. For those that have been living under a rock, radiohost Don Imus was fired from his position for using deragotary terms in "nappy headed hoes" to describe a Rutger's basketball women's team, which has now made hip hop the scapegoat due to the immediate feeling of the music genre being an institution for inflammatory images and messages. Since then a forum for change in hip hop has been opened up to bring change to the artform's current state.

The station is now heading into a different direction in terms of what type of musical content will be allowed through their airwaves. It was announced on the station that they'll no longer condone nor tolerate offensive music as their way of being active about the current situation. The music director of the station and activist Kevin Powell opened up a discussion on The Ed Lover show with EgyptNAshy this morning speaking on the responsibility of no longer reinforcing negative stereotypes through the media and hopes Power 105's step to stray away from what the station deems as inappropriate will lead to artists being more creative in terms of content and watching what they put out there. Also in response, they're hoping that record labels push out more music with content, substance, and true artistry as opposed to following the same old formula currently in the media that is believed to be contributing to some of today's corrupt youth.
