(CNN) -- Two police officers are in critical condition after a shooting Monday at a police station in Fairfax County, Virginia, an FBI source told CNN.

A suspect was wounded in the shooting, which took place about 3:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Sully District Station, in the west of the county, police spokeswoman Beth Underhill said.

She did not comment on the condition of the wounded, but an FBI official told CNN the officers were in critical condition.

The FBI official and a Fairfax County police source said a second suspect fled the scene of the shooting and was being sought.

The U.S. Park Police said one of its helicopters was aiding in the search.

Authorities said the suspects carried handguns and automatic weapons.

"This is an ongoing investigation. We're still trying to piece together what exactly happened here," Underhill said.

Heavy security surrounded Inova Fairfax Hospital, where the two officers were brought, Monday evening.

"We have requested heightened security at the hospital, which is standard procedure for an incident of this nature," Underhill said.

Aerial footage showed emergency vehicles and yellow police tape in the station parking lot, and police cars blocking traffic on nearby streets dampened by rain.

Manage Alerts | What Is This? LONDON, England (Reuters) -- Oil fell below $70 on Monday on hopes tension over Iran's nuclear ambition will ease after Tehran made an unprecedented move to contact Washington.

U.S. light crude for June delivery was down 78 cents to $69.41 a barrel. London Brent crude fell 76 cents to $70.19 a barrel.

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has written to U.S. President George W. Bush, Iranian government spokesman Gholamhossein Elham said.

"In this letter, he has given an analysis of the current world situation, of the root of existing problems and of new ways of getting out of the current vulnerable situation in the world," he said.

The letter is the first publicly announced personal communication from an Iranian Premier to a U.S. president since ties between the two countries were broken after the 1979 Islamic revolution.

The United States has led international action against Iran's nuclear plan, which it says is aimed at building atomic weapons.

Iran says it needs nuclear fuel for civilian use. It has reacted defiantly to the possibility of any U.N. resolution demanding it halt its nuclear program. At the weekend, it reissued a threat to leave the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

Analysts were cautious over impact of the letter.

"The news from Iran is certainly bearish, at least immediately anyway. But the extent of how bearish it is going to be depends on the content of the letter, which no one knows as yet," said Tetsu Emori, the chief commodities strategist at Mitsui Bussan Futures.

The price of oil has risen over $8 to date this year as investors worry the Iran dispute may eventually lead to disruption to oil output from OPEC's second largest producer.

But the oil price has fallen $5 from record highs touched two weeks ago after concerns about U.S. gasoline supplies eased last week when motor fuel inventories rose.

Bullish outlook
International Energy Agency (IEA) director Claude Mandil said on Monday he expected oil prices to stay high for at least two to three years because of high global demand and tight supply.

"They (oil companies) have not invested enough for the last 20 years," Mandil said.

"This is a cyclical business. We had low prices in the 1990s, which was unfortunate for investment in future production. We now have accelerating investment, but that will not (see) results overnight," he told reporters in Australia.

Venezuela -- the world's fifth-largest oil exporter -- said it was seeking to boost royalties and income tax on four heavy oil projects that process some 620,000 barrels per day (bpd) in the Orinoco Belt.

The announcement came less than a week after Bolivia rattled markets by sending troops into oil and gas fields in a surprise nationalization of the country's energy sector.

Exactly. They didn't blow shit up all over the news when they COPS killed this dude Jeffrey Turner in my city, fucking tazered him to death, straight up, 9 fucking times, but you know if a cop got murked it would be all over the damn news.

Well because law enforcement is more of a story than a civilian death unless of a special circumstances. Granted some "pigs" are what they are dickheads, but most are good officers that are being perceived negatively by fucktards who break the law. Also the media are the ones that you should be blaming and not the "pigs." Think.

Facts are police oficers are overworked and overstressed. Not many people are applying to become law enforcement so in short police officers don't have the manpower they once have. Here in California every single agency needs a police officer. 5-10 years ago it was not the case.

^^^exactly. contrary to popular belief, police are not bad. there are bad apples in every bunch of people, but that doesn't make that gropu as a whole bad.

Right. Because you know the majority of police officers.

I don't disagree, I've known police that are fine people, and some fully support the community and so forth. But the reality is, thier are a LOT of PIGS that are only making an abject situation worse. You can't tell me "the majority of police officers are good", when you have no idea. Yeah, maybe if your living in the suburbs, but damn dude, thiers police brutality everywhere, police killings, corrupt officers. Just like i've known officers that are alright, i've known officers that will confiscate your pot, then turn around and sell that shit. Believe me, I've seen it done. Thiers cops that wll be alright and cool, then thiers cops that will harass the fuck out of you, especially if your a minority.

So don't act like you know "most cops are good". You have no idea. I'm not claiming most or all of them are bad, I'm just saying, thiers a lot.

yeah theres this one over here who if he caught ya with weed, he would take it and smoke it in his car, least we didnt get arrested tho, and there is good cops my firend once got caught with like an 8th of weed and the cop just told him to throw it, he threw it like 5 feet into some bushes, then the cop was tellin us what to say and what not if another cop caught us, like dont say you both been smoking the same shit or you could get done for supplyin and shit like that, he musta smoked it himself :D

The UK has a lot of good cops. You get a few dickheads, but then I know I've treated a lot of them like shit myself in the past so you kind of expect the same in return.

It's not an easy job. Especially in the UK when you have a truncheon and a can of CS, Yet you go up against guns and knives.

my mom lives 5 mins. down the street from that police station and i know the kid who did it i used to talk to him back in high school

by the way most of that info is wrong...3 cops were hit by gun fire...one died-a female detective by the name of Vicky Armel, another was hit by five bullets and is still fighting for his life at the hospital, and the third was just grazed...and the guy who did it (Micheal Kennedy) was shot and killed on the scene and they are not looking for anymore suspects...he acted alone in this...he was armed with 5 handguns an ak 47 and a hunting rifle...this isn't a laughing matter but i honestly knew he was fucked up in the head

I actually do know. I use to intern for them and made good friends that are from the LAPD. Perception is a bitch aint it. Here's a good friend of mines www.joinlapdnow.com. If there was such a thing as "police brutality everwhere" then heads would be rolling and lawsuits will be filling, but the fact is there really aint and the people that do get "beaten" sometimes do need a good beaten since they are the ones that probably provoked it.

Just like i've known officers that are alright, i've known officers that will confiscate your pot, then turn around and sell that shit. Believe me, I've seen it done.
And yet you do nothing...You can file a compaint to the watch commander also some agencies allow you to report anonymously through the internet.Oh if you havent realized it the "bad" cop that confiscated your pot, you should be sucking his dick since you did not get arrested and fined.

A cop got shot here recently too, 2 times in the back once in the face, serious but stable condition. Cops are people too, and just coz they wear a badge doesnt make them bad people. Cops that abuse their power can be harshly judged but copz doin their jobs are just like any of us.

Some of you here are really something. This poor woman, Vicki O. Armel, died in the line of duty. She leaves behind a husband (also a FCPD detective) and two small children. She hasn't been laid to rest yet, and you use this as an opportunity to bash cops.

Im not saying she was a bad person, or anyone else was. MY POINT WAS, when the COPS killed a dude from my neighboorhood, for fucking LOITERING, it wasn't blown up all over CNN. Nah, it was quiet as fuck, but a cop gets killed and its all over, what the fuck is the big deal? A human life is a human life, either cover murders equally, or don't cover them. Simple as that. That cops life was no more important simply because she was a cop.

Fuck that logic.

but a cop gets killed and its all over, what the fuck is the big deal?
A. The area it happened in.
B. The place it happened.

I grew up in Fairfax County, I can't believe how much it's changed since I was a kid. I heard the shooter lived in my old neighborhood, too.

that's true Fairfax county has changed a lot over the years...it used to be one of the safest counties to live in and in some ways it still is but...mutha fuckaz out there are wildin out for no reason...and i've seen it with my own eyes when i go to visit my mom mutha fuckaz doing armed robberies car jackings and that's just the tip of the iceberg...and gang violence is at an all time high...but anyway......so did you use to live in London Towne...cause that's where they said he lived on the news but they might be wrong...but if so i know a lot of people that live and used to live in London Towne...how long ago did you live there if you did
