Since I posted my email address in the post your email thread, someone has set up an account on ebay.com using my email as the contact address and have been selling products that don't exsist as a result i have received about 30 emails from buyers saying that i have been sent various amounts of money and have not posted the goods.

I have reported this matter to ebay.com and it could just be a coinsidence that it is since i posted my email on here.

To all those who posted their email in this thread, keep an eye out for emails from ebay.com or .co.uk and report to ebay ASAP if you notice anything strange.

Thank you.

I dont think its cos your email addy is on here Katie.... the people who email you are normally the scammers cos you have to click a link on the email then 'sign in' and they get your account info (if you have it set up on that particular email addy) Ive got it a few times and I havent posted my email addy anywhere....

when will people learn that posting your email address on public internet sites is a huge mistake?

look, there are bots that crawl the entire internet daily looking for *****@.*** to add to mass email lists which in turn are sold to spam companies (who also trade and slel their lists as well). i posted a haiku on a forum once in 1999 that displayed my email address and it has a few thousand spams in it whevever i check it every couple weeks.

point blank, if you post your email address without concealing it (such as you AT suck DOT com - which even still can be harvested) then you're asking for an inbox of spam or an entry into your account if you use hotmail or yahoo account.

it can be anyone. can be a visitor not registered on tb too.. i gt tons od spams these days in my hotmail inbox. fucking junk mail.

There is also a possibility that someone "hacked" into your email address and set up an account. I say "hacked" because its not really a hacker, just someone who got a hold of your password or guessed it.

If you didnt have an ebay account prior to this, then clicking an email link would not do anything because they'd actually need to sign you up for an account, which in turn means an authorization would need to be sent to your email address before you continued. If you did have an account, they could hyjack it, if you didnt, someone had to make it, and that someone had to have access to your email account.

I suggest you change your password just to be safe.
