Any fans?

I'm blanking out on how to introduce this, so I'll just post the wiki-page of one of the most famous performance artists in America:

Marina Abramović - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

She's done some crazy shit. Most of us here would laugh it off and say it's stupid but this shit ain't easy:

"From March 14 to May 31, 2010, the Museum of Modern Art held a major retrospective and performance recreation of Abramović's work, the biggest exhibition of performance art in Moma's history. During the run of the exhibition, Abramović performed "The Artist is Present," a 736-hour and 30-minute static, silent piece, in which she sat immobile in the museum's atrium, while spectators were invited to take turns sitting opposite her."

Why the extra 30 mins? 736 hours just missed the mark? I'd like to have sat down in front of her and then tried to make her laugh. I would have ruined the whole "performance." I'd start by making monkey faces, bearing my gums and shrieking. I'd have broken her eventually.

So... if I sat in front of her and showed her this and nodded with a smile...

Think she'd flinch?

:P:D

On a serious note, that's crazy stuff. Not easy, at all to do...

Some Perfomance Art goes over my head, which I think it's supposed to. It's one of those annoying things where if you have an opinion on it, it worked.

'The Artist is Present' is cool because it interacts with the public, and it makes people (like Jokerman) think they can disturb the stillness. It's like the soldiers that can't flinch and people LOVE to try and make them flinch.

I can't remember who it was but this guy would make up situations where it'd look like half his body was in a wall, you'd just see his legs coming out, another was he would cover himself in garbage bags with his legs and arm coming out.. People would walk past and touch him to see what was going on. I think I got that right lol, been a while since I saw it but it was cool.

I dig that kind of stuff.

I like Throbbing Gristle, who were a performance art industrial band.

On the comedy side of performance art, you can't beat Andy Kaufman. Genius.

Check this one out: Seedbed (performance piece) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The guy was below the floor and would masturbate and get off by making up fantasies about the people who visited. Talk about awkward.
