Recent acts of vandalism have tarnished the Performing Arts Center’s facade, though the soul of the organization continues to shine as vibrant as ever. The damage to the building and the statue of the late hip hop icon Tupac Amaru Shakur (2Pac) was vandalized on Oct. 20th.

In affirmation of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation’s mission to promote hope and healing through the arts, the Peace Garden at the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Performing Arts will be rededicated Saturday, November 10, 2007

The ceremony will begin with a drum line procession into the Peace Garden, moving directly into a performance from Pac's Kids, students of the Performing Arts Center’s outreach program. Mother of the slain hip hop icon, Afeni Shakur, will then lead guests and attendees through a prayer for peace and hope followed by the commemorative ribbon cutting. The affair culminates with the ceremonial release of butterflies to symbolize the growth and beauty of transformation.

Immediately afterwards, the Performing Arts Center will host a special screening of Denzel Washington’s film “Remember the Titans”, the moving, real-life story of a community coming together in the face of racial tensions stemming from a Southern high school’s desegregation.

The event is free and open to the general public.
