I'm looking for a crap car that won't cause me too much trouble while I save for a decent car. What do you reckon?

1999 Ford Explorer - 109,000 miles

Pros - Practical, Comfortable, cheap parts?, Not that shit and ugly,

Cons - Expensive Fuel, High mileage,

Any more?

It only costs £2k to purchase with full leather and aircon. You get a lot of car for the money. MPG is pretty shit though, but I don't drive too much. Everything is local where I live. Insurance is £500 a year.
Bit of a crap car I guess, but everything I'm looking at is. And even if I give it away free in 2 years it won't have been that bad. Depreciation is usually a bitch and was on my last car. Losing me £6K a year pretty much.

Anyone know anything about these? Opinions? I've done a little research. Duke, you must know.

They brake a lot kind of, parts aren't cheap. Fuel out there makes me laugh kind of, and to get taht car, nah. But they are cool, not so practical, look good but since you don't do much driving I would say go for it.

gas is going to be a bitch. i dont see how you would be able to save paying for the gas in that hog, not to mention the repairs you will have to do on a suv that has over 100,000 miles. you know things are going to need to be replaced with high mileage like that. but the price doesnt seem to bad. you should see if the previous owner has done any repairs to it. also check out www.edmunds.com that is a good sight to do research on

it gets you around i guess. but it's a pig around town and i think you'll regret the MPG very very soon. overtaking will be hell too.

its also american (:fury: )

i'd go for the peugeot any day. and i still think a simple golf tdi would be best as A to B car.

just stay away from all american cars. The life cycles on american engines, trannys, and suspension is shit.

EDIT**...granted the old ford and chevy trucks are still running but that was simply because they made those things out of some serious steel and used a lot of it. You won't get that kind of reliability now...

if u want that kinda car, get a toyota 4 runner. i had 1 as my first car, it was a 1991, and i never had any problems with it. toyotas last long and dont break down. those damn japs know how to make cars. to be honest most american cars are crap.
