Non-Urban Music Nirvana - rape me and smells like teen spirit

ive been wondering for a while now... the riff in rape me is similar to smells like teen spirit... do you think that it was a response to people pretty much oversaturating the song.. like having it raped over and over again?

but no, Kurt wrote "Rape Me" in May 1991, before "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was a hit, in fact before Nevermind was even released. (Nevermind was released September '91).

Even though it wasn't released till 1993 when In Utero came out, they had been playing it in their live sets since 1991.

Cobain often pointed out that "Rape Me" was written before Nirvana's ascension to superstardom, and therefore could not have been a cynical comment on fame, as many suggested around the time of In Utero's release.
