It has nothing to do with being famous. It's about the media telling us how we should look. They tell us what's beautiful and what's not and a lot of females, as well as males eat it all up. Nicole Ritchie lives a public life so we are able to see her in her best and worst when we open up a magazine. Because of this constant scrutiny, people like her look the way they do. You will find many non-famous girls who are self-conscious because they see the pictures in the magazines and hear the boys saying how hot a certain celebrity is. Because they don't look like an air brushed model in a magazine, they feel fat or ugly, they'll skip 2 meals and eat a canybar for dinner. That's what's really disgusting.

^ What does a magazine like People provide? Do they provide anything important? They provide pictures of a celebrity's baby. They provide judgement of how a person looks. They provide gossip. They provide social pressure that lead people to obsess about how they look. If it's a social pressure brought on by the media, how can you sit there and say you only blame herself? If a photographer was following your every move, and if writers of these magazines commented on how you look from top to bottom, and if the public was talking about who you fucked, and if the constant unwanted attention lead you to a unhealthy lifestyle, are you going to only blame yourself? If you did the best you could as a parent and if your daughter died from anorexia, are you going to blame your daughter for her death?

Although anorexia nervosa is usually associated with Western cultures, exposure to Western media is thought to have led to an increase in cases in non-Western counties.

I agree partially with Salty that media is somewhat to blame for this, but a lot also comes from the person themselves. If you look like this and you look at yourself in the mirror and say "I think I look good today", you have fucking issues, social pressure or no social pressure.

As for getting the weight back on, after suffering from a eating disorder, is so much harder than you believe. I've watched videos and listened to testamoniesin my Psych. Disorders class... The shit is horrible when they are institutionalized. It's for their better, but it's hell for them.
