I thought it was ok. There were a few gaps left open in the story, but I still thought it was alright. P.Dildo was better than I was expecting. lol.

Is it a remake or does it take place before the original?
It's complicated.

There are two books, Carlito's Way and After Hours, After Hours being a sequel to Carlito's Way.

The film Carlito's Way is based on the book After Hours, but used the name of the first book to avoid being confused with another film called After Hours.

Carlito's Way: Rise to Power is based on the book Carlito's Way.

So the film is a prequel in the sense that it's set before Carlito's Way, but the book wasn't written as a prequel.

nah didnt like it.i guess i was expecting more since watching the first one.i wish they used pacino again and with their makeup tactics making him look younger.i mean i have nothing against the actor playing carlito,he was good, but nobody does it like pacino.

It's shitty, not really worth watching, crappy script, average actors.

I figga John Leguizamo ain't in it right?
Obviously not because he's quite young in Carlitos Way, and this is a prequel. But then again they got Luis Guzman playing a totally different character in this one. It's just stupid... good thing it was straight to dvd.
