Nas' new album "Nigga" not likely to drop this year.

Representatives for Island Def Jam have denied that Hip-Hop superstar Nas will release an album with the controversial title Nigga in December.

The rapper made headlines on Friday (October 13), when he announced the controversial title and release date of December for his next album, during a show at the Roseland Ballroom in New York.

According to FoxNews.com, representatives close to Island Def Jam Chairman Antonio "L.A." Reid have denied that they will release the album by Nas in December.

Additionally, the representative claimed the only album for Nas on Def Jam's release schedule is his Greatest Hits compilation, which is due in stores in November.

"There is no album release by Nas on the release schedule at this point," a source told FoxNews.com."And they would be unlikely to release an album with that title. How would that look at Wal-Mart?"

While the release date is in question, representatives for Nas and a PR representative at Def Jam confirmed the controversial name of the album with AllHipHop.com.

Nas' album title Nigga has sparked controversy and debate throughout the Hip-Hop community.

The title was also condemned by Reverend Jesse Jackson.

"The title using the 'N' word is morally offensive and socially distasteful," Jackson said in a statement. "Nas has the right to degrade and denigrate in the name of free speech, but there is no honor in it. Radio and television stations have no obligation to play it and self-respecting people have no obligation to buy it. I wish he would use his talents to lift up and inspire, not degrade, making mockery of racism."

Nas found support from an unlikely ally - Don Imus.

A representative for the shock jock, who was fired for calling female members of the Rutgers University Basketball Team "nappy headed hoes," told FoxNews.com that the album title was a "good thing."

"It's a good thing," Imus' representative Martin Garbus said. "Words like that should be deprived of their meanings, and then they can't hurt."

Well, that is very disappointing, but hey if there's a delay, maybe he'll do a collabo with Lil' Wayne. I know we'd all like to see that! :thumb:

These people are ridiculous. They're as ignorant as they come. The album name is gonna spark debate, yes. Obviously. Look what he named it! Focus on the album name and don't get into his actual songs and him as a rapper in general. Why? Cause you have no fucking idea about him or his music! These older people get on tv and make a mockery of Hip Hop music and they THINK they know what they're talking about. They don't realize that not every rapper who speaks about violence is actually a violent person. Alot of rappers speak the truth and they give their fans the reality. People shoot other people. People kill other people. People sell drugs. Fact is, whether they are considered role models or not, it's the listeners responsibility to do what they wanna do. Nas (or any other rapper) isn't telling you to go out and shoot people or do drugs. These people are idiots. Yeah, let's play the songs like "Shoot Em Up", "Got Yourself A Gun" and take clips of other songs where he talks about guns and play those. Forget about any of his other songs. It's like that lady said.. they found the worst of everything. That other dumb bitch actually has the nerve to say those songs cancel out the positive ones.

It wont be out in December. Hes touring around the world late November, if his album was coming out early December he'd be there promoting.

The problem that I have with these people (like Jesse Jackson) is that they are so quick to point fingers and condemn people at the drop of a hat without knowing the facts. Instead of doing some actual fucking research into the artist and his reasons for giving his album that title, they just sit back and criticize. I guarantee you Jesse Jackson knows nothing about Nas, just like he knows nothing about hip hop. His comments in this situation are parallel to one in which I would hear of a surgeon's idea for a new operation and, upon hearing the title, get behind the podium and attack it relentlessly based on its controversial name. If I were to do this, having no knowledge whatsoever about the surgeon and the procedure itself I would be called an idiot. And rightly so.
 
I laugh @ how almost every rapper is nigga this nigga that but as soon as nigga is used as an album title there is an uproar

thats what i was gonna say. dont you think this is worse. one reason being is that it has a clear message (this album is strictly 4 my NIGGAZ) two it was what 93, when rap was hated. this shit is dumb. BTW when did people stop using the word. You here all the white people say we stoped saying the it. Oh really. this will just piss black people off. they are telling them they cant use a word that was built to knock them down.

this would have been perfect for pac to release if he had lived, explaining his whole n.i.g.g.a meaning, then have some uplifting inspiring tracks on it... but ye he died now nas doing it, i just hope its for the same thing an he doesnt fuck it up, an mentions pac too

There is no divide at Def Jam: They are fully onboard with Nas. At the Manhattan premiere of "American Gangster" at the Apollo Theatre on Friday night (October 19), Island Def Jam Music Group Chairman Antonio "L.A." Reid balked at reports that his company isn't supporting Nas' decision to title his December 11 album Nigger.

"Really, who'd you hear that from?" Reid said, acting as if he were surprised. Earlier this week, Fox News reported that someone from his office said the company did not want to release an album with such an explicit name.

Reid said that is not the case.

"We support everything our artists do, everything!" he added. "We stand firmly behind and beside our artists with pride and with pleasure. Anything Nas wants to do, I completely stand beside him. Nas is prolific, he's prophetic, he's a genius, an amazing artist of respect. So, while I'm not sure exactly all that [the title] entails, I know it's smart, so I stand behind him. That's real."

Common, who is in "American Gangster," was also vocal about his support for Nas Friday night.

"I love Nas," he said with a grin. "Nas is always bringing something new, bringing something for us to think about. He's one of the best ever. If it wasn't for Nas, a lot of cats, including myself, wouldn't be rhyming the way they do. So I mean, I know [the title] is something behind what he's doing, he's making statements. That's something we need in hip-hop. Last Poets did it, Gil Scott-Heron did it, Marvin Gaye did it. We gotta keep making statements."

And while many in the hip-hop community are showing their faith for God's Son, despite not hearing his full explanation for why he gave his opus the controversial title, civil-rights activist the Rev. Al Sharpton has condemned his choice of LP moniker.

"Again, I'm opposed to anybody using the term," Sharpton, who has called for total abolishment of word, said on the red carpet. "We're in an age where they are hanging nooses, they're locking our kids up in Jena and Florida. We do not need to be degrading ourselves. We get degraded enough. I think we need artists to lift us up, not lock us down."

Nas told MTV News on Thursday that he wanted to take the power out of the N-word.

"I wanna make the word easy on muthafuckas' ears," he explained. "You see how white boys ain't mad at 'cracker' 'cause it don't have the same [sting] as 'nigger'? I want 'nigger' to have less meaning [than] 'cracker.'"


"It has all the sting in the world when people are writing it on boards," Sharpton answered when told of Nas' quote. "What they're doing is, as we're fighting to make [using the N-word word] a hate crime, they're making it not a hate crime, which is helping out the racists. You don't see [people from] any other race trying to take the power out of names being called to them. People [who use the term in their music] wouldn't put out a record against whites or cops or Jews because they ain't got the guts to do that. They only got the guts to beat up on their own."

Method Man, meanwhile, opined that there's too much over-analysis going on.

"Nas knows what he's doing. He's a smart brother. He keeps his name in the game," Tical offered. "Last year, when he put out Hip Hop Is Dead, I was being interviewed, everybody was asking me what I thought about his album. ... I think it's too much emphasis on just the word. I know a word worse than 'nigger': Darfur. Real talk. I'd like to see Reverend Al take a walk out there. Let stop focusing on the wrong shit."

So Nas' new album is now called "Nigger" instead of "Nigga." and does appear to be coming out this year afterall. And seriously Al Sharpton just needs to go somewhere, Does he not realize he's doing an interview about a word that prortays black people in the wrong way while at the premiere of a movie about a black man who killed and poisoned his way to being a mob boss?
