I was talking to my parents and my dad was telling me about an argument they had had when they were like 19-20. My mother was being a real dramatic bitch and after some arguing in the car she smacked him over the face. He smacked her back and told her you never do that again, stop acting ridiculous. They married and had two children. The way he told the story though, I got a newfound respect.

I think your mom was in the wrong to slap him, but I don't really think that your dad should have hit her back necessarily. It's better to show no reaction to that and just leave her, and let the guilt eat her and wait for apology in the meantime.

I don't know, I mean, fighting in relationships seems to be the rage right now. Every couple I know has been in fist-fights and they're getting along still, but I still think there's something sick about that whole ordeal.

In the end, it seemed like an isolated incident and no escalation and that's why things worked out in the end. I just hope that your mother hasn't slapped your dad again because she's scared that he'll hit her back, but that she got better at controlling her emotions and dealing with arguments.
