Hey fellow people.

I just had a magnificent idea. It seems me and Scruffy are about to have a little beat battle in the battle section. There's been a couple over the years, but hey, here's an idea for some StreetHop publicity.

Rukas, you are a professional artist. As are you, Militant. I don't know the extend of DarkPhantom's professional career, but I do know he had Nate Dogg in the studio to sing a hook for his group's songs. I assume you all have connections. What if we somehow made a beat-making competition where the winner beat would be used for some sort of release, or the winner somehow be given some cool shit. Here are some ideas for a prize package:

- Have the beat featured on some semi-big name artist's song. Let's say YoungLine are doing a mixtape with a bunch of more or less known rappers on it. Or that SWAMI is going in the studio with someone. Or whatever really. Just have the winner beat be used for something that would reach out to people.
- A news post and profile in the main page, like a featured artist kind of thing, with a short bio or a short interview or something. The producers could supply some remixes or instrumentals that could be posted as featured audio for this artist profile.
- A year's free VIP on this forum.

There could even have been a rule that by the end of the competition, for you to actually win you will have to have participated under the durance of the tournament. Let's say the requirement is that you supply one MP3 and 10 forum posts. In fact, if that's a bad or impractical idea, drop it and focus on the main idea.

I can't help but think that this would attract people from the outside, as well as bring some of the lurkers out. When was the last time DarkPhantom posted a beat or a song on this site? Or any of the other musicians except Rukas or Mili? I'm sure there's a bunch of hobby beatmakers who don't do it cause they don't see a point.

Since Rukas is heavily music oriented, this may fall on the right ear.

lol.

i'd be willing to put in some work for this to work out.

if anything, wouldn't it be cool for all the musicians on streethop to have a tournament then somehow? but not in some dusty old section, in a sub-forum here in our block, like with the awards.

I think it's cool.

I can't give out any affiliation to my band, though. Legally. Basically plans are in motion to already do something like this around when our new album drops....something like making the parts to a song available for remixing etc, and the best entry wins something or other, I think we talked about the prize being that their remix features on a B-Side to a single, or an iTunes exclusive EP that comes out after the album, featuring all the commissioned remixes that people are doing at the moment and a bonus original track, like the winner's remix would also go on there. We haven't put together specifics.

But that's all tied up with a site/promotional agency that we have done a deal with and signed a contract with. They are doing multiple things like that to promote us, they're the ones organizing the USA college tour and a load of other things for us.

I might be able to help in other ways though. Preach, if you're gonna put in the groundwork to make this happen in some form, I definitely support it.

^LOL

well, i know you can find dp's first album on ebay lol

ROFL If you show anybody i will kill you fucker!!! I told you the reason i dont support that album.

If you get this shit going in motion i am more than down for all this. Everything needs to be set up right though. I know Rukas has a worldwide movement he's tryin to get going right now too. And i've had more than just Nate Dogg in the studio....i know Ruk really enjoyed the track with Big Syke :D. But like i said im down.

Make a hot beat first, peach.

ROFL :thumb:

I would like to say that I'm sorry Eric, but Phantom's beats run laps around yours.

For now I'll wait until Rukas sees this and responds. For all I know something like this could already be planned, or there could be a specific reason why it would be a bad idea, I don't know. We'll take it from there.

For some reason Eric hates westcoast beats and thinks they are wack. Preach check out my idea i left you in the battle thread.

Its hard for me to say yes or no to it because it all depends on how hot the beat is. I cant say yeah artist X will rock it because maybe they all turn up wack and he will not want to. Id say that I would rock it but I wont commit to it for the same reasons.
