Hey fellow people.
I just had a magnificent idea. It seems me and Scruffy are about to have a little beat battle in the battle section. There's been a couple over the years, but hey, here's an idea for some StreetHop publicity.
Rukas, you are a professional artist. As are you, Militant. I don't know the extend of DarkPhantom's professional career, but I do know he had Nate Dogg in the studio to sing a hook for his group's songs. I assume you all have connections. What if we somehow made a beat-making competition where the winner beat would be used for some sort of release, or the winner somehow be given some cool shit. Here are some ideas for a prize package:
- Have the beat featured on some semi-big name artist's song. Let's say YoungLine are doing a mixtape with a bunch of more or less known rappers on it. Or that SWAMI is going in the studio with someone. Or whatever really. Just have the winner beat be used for something that would reach out to people.
- A news post and profile in the main page, like a featured artist kind of thing, with a short bio or a short interview or something. The producers could supply some remixes or instrumentals that could be posted as featured audio for this artist profile.
- A year's free VIP on this forum.
There could even have been a rule that by the end of the competition, for you to actually win you will have to have participated under the durance of the tournament. Let's say the requirement is that you supply one MP3 and 10 forum posts. In fact, if that's a bad or impractical idea, drop it and focus on the main idea.
I can't help but think that this would attract people from the outside, as well as bring some of the lurkers out. When was the last time DarkPhantom posted a beat or a song on this site? Or any of the other musicians except Rukas or Mili? I'm sure there's a bunch of hobby beatmakers who don't do it cause they don't see a point.
Since Rukas is heavily music oriented, this may fall on the right ear.
