U2 lead singer Bono has been named the most influential pop star of the last 25 years, in a poll commissioned by popular music channel MTV.

American duo Michael Jackson and Madonna came second and third respectively.

They were followed by Kurt Cobain in fourth and Prince in fifth.

Australian pop star Kylie Minogue was ranked 7th, while British singer Robbie Williams came 12th.

Justin Timberlake, Pete Doherty, Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears all made the top 15.

According to the BBC, the top 15 stars in the poll have been pictured in an artwork for London’s Buckingham Palace.

British pop group the Spice Girls and American singer Gwen Stefani made the top 25 but are not featured in the artwork, the BBC added.

Over 4,000 people were questioned in the survey.

MTV, which broadcasts to around 1.5 billion people in over 150 countries, celebrates its 25th anniversary on August 1.

Bono - real name Paul Hewson - was born in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, on May 10, 1960.

The top 15 is as follows:

1. Bono

2. Michael Jackson

3. Madonna

4. Kurt Cobain

5. Prince

6. Eminem

7. Kylie Minogue

8. Snoop Dogg

9. Justin Timberlake

10. Sir Elton John

11. Beyonce Knowles

12. Robbie Williams

13. Pete Doherty

14. Christina Aguilera

15. Britney Spears.
Good to see 3 of my favorite artists in the top 5 - MJ, Prince and Kurt.

He is a total waste of space, if there was a list for 'useless junkies who always carry a guitar around' he would be top of the list.
I'm no Libertines/Babyshambles fan - but you have to give the guy his props for meaning a lot to so many people. Your comment reminds me of the things they used to say about Kurt - and they couldn't have been more wrong in his case. Not that I'm comparing the two - Pete doesnt have a tenth of the talent Kurt did... but the mistakes people may make in their lifestyle, especially when it comes to drugs, shouldn't be judged. It doesn't have any bearing on one's musical ability. Many of the greatest musicians of all time were 'junkies' - I'm not condoning it, but I have no right to judge anyone.

Pete Doherty is a talentless waste of space. Just ignore him, and he will inevitably disappear. If he doesnt get locked up first.
I totally agree :thumb:

I actually didn't mind some of his libertines tunes but how many bites at the apple does this goon get, i hope he gets himself sorted but i can't see it anytime soon. Come to think of it i aint heard no news about him for a while so maybe he is in re-hab again. Oh well, enough about him.

Was this list just the general public or industry figures? Michael had to be near the top, i bet it was close to him being no.1.

LOL - I didn't completely contradict myself. I wrote that after that story about him injecting the girl, I think, which was fucked up and he did deserve to be punished for that shit.

Anyway, its cool to say he's talentless. I still pretty much agree with that, I just don't think him being a junkie has any particular bearing on it.

That list is seriously some bullshit.

Britney Spears? Yeah I guess she influenced alot of young girls into dressing like whores? Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, Pete Doherty! Get the fuck out of here...

I'd say Pete Doherty is better than Kurt everytime. Better band he had with The Libs but I'm not sure about his inclusion I suppose in a way he rejuvenated the indie scene over here but imo The Strokes had more influence on that than him. Although everywhere you go there seems to be 300 Pete clones walkin around.

I'm not one to criticise people's musical tastes but to even mention Pete Doherty in the same sentence as Kurt Cobain borders on blasphemy. Seriously, Doherty is average at best.

Kurt spearheaded a entire musical movement, produced 3 STELLAR albums (Bleach, Nevermind, In Utero), became the spokesman for an generation, and wrote classic song after classic song after classic song.

Pete deliberately manipulates the media and then wonders why people just think of him as an untalented smackhead. I personally know people that have dealt with him and none have had a good word to say about him. I did a BBC Maida Vale live session with my band two days after he went there to do one, and I had a lengthy discussion with the sound engineers where they were telling me that he was unprofessional and very difficult to work with. Now, unprofessionalism can be dealt with if theres a supreme talent behind it. But with him, there isn't.

How can you ban that? I didn't say anythin wrong
Irrelevant, off topic, factually incorrect, deliberate provocation, pointless....should I go on?

Since you are seemingly incapable of participating in a debate (read: mature) rather than turning it into an argument (read: childish) - this thread is closed. Congrats on ruining it for all the intelligent posters.
