MTV Rates Makaveli as #9 on Greatest Hip Hop Albums!?!?

Why?? i think he´s right with most of the stuff he said.
The fact that you´re a pac-fan doesn´t mean u can´t say that there are some better albums

The problem is, he ISNT right.......and he has yet to try and refute my post.

he said Ready to Die did more for hip hop than All Eyez on Me, which I already proved is completely false. AEOM is one of the top 5 most influential albums of all time. Ready to Die is NOT. I was there to see both albums drop, and Ready to Die only had an initial impact on the rap game. It didnt have the lasting impact or all around trend setting abilities that AEOM did (and still does).

He said no one thinks Me Against the World is a classic, except Pac heads.....I proved that wrong also. That album is a universally accepted classic by most hip hop heads. Most people consider this or DK7 to be Pac's best album.

He said Toss it Up brings Makaveli way down......this I cant prove wrong because its all subjective, but I dont think one song can bring an album down signifigantly. Especially on an album like Makaveli, which is filled with gems from almost start to finish and is considered by many to be Pac's greatest album.

To Chronic:I don't listen to US rap to hear good lyrics...I listen to it because they do good music...

Well honestly, if you don't listen to US rap for the lyrics why are you discussing in this thread?

I don't know man - its a long debate but i will say this any true hip hop expert (not east coast) will say AEOM is better than Ready 2 Die Period.

I'd say it's the other way around. Ready to Die seems to be a lot more celebrated among Hip-Hop Heads than All Eyez On Me.

hey i used to be a biggie fan now converted pac fan, im sorry biggies music was good and stuff but he had nothing really relevant to say part from women which i think most of u agree he wasnt gettin before ready to die. The album shouldve been renamed ready to eat

oh yeah and one more thing i dont realyy care bout this list anyways, i got my own list all pac albums from 1-10 i really dont care bout others list all i say is good for them we all gonna disagree

Er...

I can still judge the quality of an album by judging the quality of the production...

Yea but you can't judge an album overall. If this was a Top 10 Best Produced Albums list, sure, but not when it's a list that concerns every aspect of an album. Even if you put production at the same level of lyrics it's still only 50% of the album.
I'm not saying it's a problem that you only listen to production but how can you say that an album doesn't belong in the list when you don't listen to the lyrics? Same thing if you only listened to the lyrics.

yea maybe by you it is celebrated but not by me - I have ready to die and i skip most of the tracks. AEOM is better than ready to die.

I didn't say by me. I said that in general Hip-Hop heads tend to prefer Ready to Die. I said it because you said that Hip-Hop experts should pick AEOM. They don't though.

let me correct myself then hip hop expert is not what i meant if those dudes are 30 year old white boys working for a magazine. then i dont really care what they pick. but honestly do you think ready 2 die is better than AEOM????

From what I've gathered a lot of heads actually do prefer AEOM while a lot don't. This is for the simple reason that ostensibly AEOM has too much filler and isn't true to Pac while Ready to Die was Biggie's breakthrough and helped re-launch East Coast Hip-Hop back to the mainstream. So for some part you could say outside influences dictate how both are rated. Pound for pound I would rate AEOM better becuase it has superior production, Pac's verses are mostly on point barring two or three noticeable exceptions, the topics are diversified i.e. the party tracks to Shorty Wanna Be a Thug to Wonda Why they Call U Bitch to Life Goes On and the ad-libing is kept to an un-annoying minimum. Both are classics to listen to but AEOM shades it for me. At the end of the day it all comes down to opinion however. Don't let some "expert" tell you what is a classic and what isn't, judge for yourself.

Yup I do.
I don't like All Eyez On Me that much. It's a dope album to put on at parties and in the car etc. but overall Ready to Die was much better. AEOM seems rushed. There were a couple of excellent songs but overall it was one of Pac's worst albums (not saying it's bad though. Pac never released a bad album). Songs like When We Ride I enjoy but I don't think they're very good. They're beneath Pac's level of writing.
Me Against the World is Pac's best album and that's better than Ready to Die though.

2Pac is better than Biggie (and I like Pac's music better as well) but Biggie just had an excellent debut (while Life After Death wasn't that great). It's like with Nas, you can say what you want about him and his albums but Illmatic is one of the best albums ever released period.

You should think about the fact that Ready to Die is so widly celebrated and the fact that you skip most of the tracks. Doesn't that make you think that maybe you're missing something about the album? You should bump that album till you learn to appreciate it, see why people say it's so good. When you share the opinion that it's a great album, THEN compare it to AEOM.

Listen to "Suicidal Thoughts", that's one of the best tracks on Ready to Die.
