Have any of you considered this, I mean seriously considered it?

For what reasons would you decide to move away from 'home'?

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? And what's stopping you?

I think about it all the time and I am certain that at some point I will leave Australia.

I like it here but I feel there is so much more to experience. You learn so much more, not just about cultures or society but as corny as it sounds, probably yourself.

I cant think of any one place I would want to live, but a couple on my list would be China - I went there once and loved it. The atmosphere, the mentality - it just fascinated me. It's so foreign if you know what I mean. Also France - I've just always had a thing for France, if you've seen the movie 'Sabrina' there is this quote about finding yourself in Paris... I think that would be true of myself.

The only thing stopping me now is money and the fact I have obligations here right now with uni. I intend to travel as much as I can, however, possibly with my career if I keep up the international focus.

Nice topic btw. What about yourself?

Well I have thought about it, but then I put it down to day-dreams and silly thoughts. But just recently I've been thinking about it alot.

My reasons for thinking about it are really just to explore different cultures and lifestyles and gain more knowledge of the world in a hope to kinda understand myself better if that makes sense? Sometimes I kinda feel like I have outgrown my home and it just gets me frustrated.

I'm not certain if I would settle anywhere abroad, but I certainly feel like I could travel. One of the best places I visited was New York City, I loved it because it was so different, can definitely understand the phrase 'so foreign'. I live in the countryside and it's pretty isolated here so New York was just a total eye-opener for me, I kinda knew I was either gonna love it or hate it and well I love it. I don't know if I could live there but I'm going back early next year.

I've lived in Tenerife for a little while back when I was 18, that was kinda out of adolescent behaviour more than anything though.

I dunno, I'd like to visit Canada, and Chile, and yeah China looks pretty cool.

Sometime I guess I question how serious my thoughts are, I think I'm holding myself back to be honest, I guess cus it's all so uncertain. Right now I have to stay home and take care of some things, but maybe in the future I'll do it :)

no, i never considered it simply because i really really like the place/country where i was born. i dont think there is a single place on earth where i would be more happy than im now, right here.

on the other hand, i would like to visit many different places on earth, for vacation or something but not to spend my whole life there.

I have seriously considered it. I even applied for a visa.

On my list is the US, Oz and NZ. Maybe 1 day. I'd do it if someone I'm close too would come with me, but it's just too much on my own. Considering I'm very anti-people I don't know.

I already am. But, I plan to move to another foreign country in Europe within the next ten years. It's a great experience.

It is definatley one of my life ambitions, but as other people have said I still have obligations in this country at the mo (education etc.) My career really does give me the option of moving (sports physiopherapist).
The reasons I would like to leave this country are the weather (i'm fed up of freezing my nuts off), the cost of living here, peoples attitudes and the fact that this country is going down the pan!

I like where I am (well, in college, not back home in PA). I don't know if I'd want to settle down anywhere else, but I'd really like to go visit some places. I've never been outside the States. I've also been considering studying abroad, so that give me a new experience to base this off of.

I have moved to a foreign country in my lifetime, although it wasnt really that 'foreign' given it was another English speaking country. However it was in a different hemisphere.

I spent the first 13 years of my in England, and then my family and I emmigrated to Sydney, Australia, where I have spent the last seven years.

It has its highs and and its lows, if you are seriously considering it you should be prepared for both.

It is very much like having two completely different lives. When I go back to England and see my mates its like I never left, which is great, but can be disorientating at times.

Im actually writing this in Paris, Ive spent half a year travelling through Europe, a lot of time in England.. I wanted to decide if I should continue university in Sydney or England. That is another thing you have to be prepared for - your lives can catch up with you, and when that happens you have some big choices to make.

I had the best teenage years I ever could have imagined in Australia, yet as I went from boy to man a few things my desire to be back in England grew. Ive now decided to stay in Sydney, and I fly back there soon. The only reason Im sitting in an internet cafe in Paris, while some sick woman next to me farts and then says Excusez Moi, is because Im sorting out University applications once again and writing personal statements.

So I really should stop procrastinating, but seriously, if anyone is considering moving countries and wants a chat, give me a shout, like I said you have to be prepared for it, and theres far more to it than that which I would be willing to detail outside of this forum.

Just my two Euro cents/english pennies.

Yeah, I'm gonna move to LA in the next 4-5 years.

Seriously thinking about moving again, the question is simply where to.

Yes I have thought long and hard about it, money is the only thing holding me back, one day I will, if there is a Military Draft it will be that day ;)

I think about travelling all the time too. By friend spent the summer backpacking in Australia and he loved it. I think travelling Australia or South America would be pretty fun.

Yup i have and i will soon
about a month ago i decided 'fuck this, i'm leaving'.
Not because my life here isn't good, simply because i feel like i've conquered melbourne and i want to move away for a few years. When i was in year 11 or 12 i decided that i want to meet as many people as i can around the world since meeting a new person is like visiting a new country. A different history behind each person, different attitudes and different ways of thinking. So i decided that i'd move to other countries and meet more people as well. Develop a big network of people that i know.
But the other thing is, i'd like the challenge of making it on my own without knowing anybody. It took me 2 months in singapore when i went there 3 years ago. But i might go again because i feel like i concentrated on one particular crowd.
But my plan is to live in the US or singapore for a year or 2. then live around europe for a few years
.

chapel hill's the spot for anyone thinking about coming to the U.S. and doesn't want to live in NYC or LA or Chicago or whatever.. especially if you're around the college age and single...the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area is supposed to be one of the best places to meet people

not that that had anything to do with my decision to go to college here at all
