In popular culture, the term "combo breaker" is used to refer to anything that disrupts the repetition of a theme or, in the case of imageboards, sometimes simply being announced in itself with the exclamation "C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!", which clearly comes from where the term was first mentioned, the first Killer Instinct game.

sometimes you say combo breaker when you do a lot of combos in a row.
