actually no, in Europe it's all about OPEC.
America is more independent if it comes to gas/petrol prices.
Taxes doesn't mean much here, it's just a way to regulate prices.

We all have burning passions. I use this example all the time but some people are all about animal rights and spend their spare time doing shit that is related to the betterment of animal rights. They subscribe to magazines and websites and go through news media for related articles. Some people are all about child starvation and try to enlighten everyone about how children are abused in some countries. Some people are all anti-crime and spend lots of time and effort in their local community.

It's impossible to have a burning passion for everything, so I'm saying that even though I agree with Kami and Bach that what linx said is a puppet-like attitude, maybe he makes up for it by being emotionally invested in noble matters that you aren't even aware about, and thus has little energy left to "fight this battle". All in all, there are bigger problems in the world than petrol prices, and ideally we shouldn't even be burning fossile fuels anyway, so the gas prices going up isn't necessarily a bad thing. There's many angles to that discussion.

Yes you gotta get the gas anyway but that doesn't mean if they put ridiculous price on the gas, you should just sit and don't expect to say anything. Thats what they do whoever is in charged of raising gas prices, they're fucking with your brain making you believe that yes you still need to get the gas so whatever price they'll put on, they think you could be ok with. In the long run, it makes HUGE difference.

Same thing we metrocards and tolls you pay when you cross the bridge. They raised the metrocard and toll prices as well. Yes we all have to go to work by taking that subway and crossing that bridge so why complain? Well it hurts your wallet in the long run. People as a whole need to do some kind of demonstrations and marches and boycotts to show they won't just accept any price they put on gas, matrocards or tolls.

Even 3.0 litre v6 cars get stuck, let alone every civic and whatever other small car you see stuck on the sides of the streets. People tow boats, atv's whatever, there will probably be someone saying Americans don't need to do things like that probably. They are used for recreational purposes, big trucks are used for work whatever. It's a lot easier to say why not just use something else when you don't live here. If people were able to use small cars and trucks they would, but most of the time there is no choice. So yes our gas prices are high and it really doesnt matter what your gas prices are since I do not live there. Your economy is built around high gas prices, you have smaller cars, you travel far less distance etc. Ours is not, so these high gas prices are fucking with us a lot.

i always find it amusing when people talk about "oil strikes" and shit like that, like if everyone didn't us gas or oil for a day the companies would have to lower their prices. well, if they knew they would make back any money they lost in a day-long oil strike the next day, why the fuck would they care? if people really wanted to make a difference in that regard, everyone would have to give up using oil for at least a month or more before the oil companies would even start to take any financial hits. and people are too self absorbed in their own daily lives to bother with the inconvenience of not being able to drive or use anything that derives energy from oil.

I always thought that we've got much tougher winters than Americans and somehow we make it with 1.0, 1.3, 1.5 (most popular probably) engines of smaller cars. I have never seen a casual car with an engine bigger than 2.8 and they still can make it somehow.
Also we're not used to shorter routes, why should we?
Gas prices here are fucking with us much much more (counting how much we spend/ how much we earn) than they do with Americans in America and I think that you out there should not bitch about them. They're still really low.

Also what pisses me the most is that a lot of those 3-4 litre engines have no more than 130-150 horsepower which is less than a 1.6 honda v-tec which drains 6-7 litres of petrol.
Many American cars just make a lot of noise and drain a lot of gasoline (polluting American environment btw.)
Maybe at least this will stop when the gas prices will rise and people will use stronger engines only if there's a serious need for that.

You wouldn't want to start the protest but yet you say if there were people who would start the protest, you say you would join them. Thats not the way to go.

If those millions of people were to start protesting (and this is hypothetically speaking), they would be doing that not just for themselves but for over all good of the society and that includes you.

The point is, peoples attitude that they can't control the gas prices themselves and to look at the next guy and rely on them to start the protesting is a bad attitude. I don't mean to sound preachy but you as an individual need to start the protesting if you want better prices and not look at the next guy. Because thats what you said, you wouldn't want to start, but if others will you will follow them.

Thats still not a excuse. I look at the customer point of view. I can't say 'well people in Europe have much expensive gas so I shouldn't complain.' I think arguing over who has the right to complain about any matter is pointless.

The bottom line is, there is little to none that you can do to change the price of gas. What you can do though is make a change in your lifestyle. If you can't change how much you drive and you can't carpool or take public transit, well then, reduce your other consumption levels. Don't buy the next CD that comes out or the next game or the next DVD. Don't get too drunk and spend $200 at the bar in one night. Little things.

There's a simple answer to that. You have no choice. Just because you live in America and have freedom of speech, it doesn't mean that using that freedom to complain will yield any results.


As far as gas prices go, there's many reasons why they are high. First off, the simple concept of supply and demand. Then, you have taxes, price of crude oil, price of refining oil, and price of distribution all included in the price that you pay. When any of those are affected in any way, price of gas is directly affected. But, then, you also have to take into account speculators and hedge funds that bid up oil prices.

Americans, and apparently you too, don't like the idea of adjustment. You want things to be peachy and when they're not, you throw your hands up in the air and complain with nothing to offer.

First off all don't get cute and you know what I mean. America isn't the only place where you have freedom of speech and America didn't invented such thing. It just so happens this is where freedom of speech is utilized the best. Freedom of speech is universal and every country in the world should have. Its like when people say having a lot of money, houses and cars is 'American dream'. No its not. There are a lot of places where people live just as fine and own just as much houses and cars but they don't live in any type of 'dream'. They live in normal life that people should live. It just so happens Americans live this normal live but it shouldn't be labeled as 'American dream'. Thats a myth.

So, don't tryna sound funny when you say just because I live in American and have freedom of speech I shouldn't say this and that. Because I should have freedom of speech regardless of where I live and I should have the right to say whatever I want.

Why don't I have nothing to offer? What is it that I should offer or what is it that I'm not offering when I'm protesting gas prices.
