OK, I said I would do this so here it is. Multiple people have been sending me messages asking for rare Prince stuff, outtakes and live stuff. So in this thread I will do this, and update it sporadically.

Everyone has their own favorite era of Prince, and I can't cater to everyone. If you have specific requests then I might be to help with some of that, otherwise you're just going to have to trust in my music taste regarding which cuts I pull out of the bag. :)

I'll be uploading to Rapidshare, so if anyone has a problem with that let me know. I don't really want to be uploading retail stuff in here so don't ask. Just unreleased/rare/live/remixes.

I'll only upload a few at a time, each time. This isnt somewhere where you're going to be able to come and download a shitload of MP3s and probably not even listen to them all. Each track must be appreciated individually.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Prince - Do Me, Baby (live from The Homecoming, Minneapolis Met Center, Controversy Tour 1983)

I first came across this whilst watching a live audience-filmed bootleg of this concert that I have on DVD. Listen to Brown Mark's bass, it sounds bad ass. This is an absolute gem of a live performance, after watching the DVD I just had to go and seek out the audio.

The DVD was professionally pressed by some label in Germany (despite being an audience filmed bootleg) and distributed to shops in Europe (I found it in a shop in Birmingham, UK), and was recently in the news for getting banned. Stupid thing is, the gig is from 1983 and the picture on the cover is from 1990, lol. It still pops up on eBay a lot, though.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Prince - Strange Relationship (Live from Lovesexy Tour, Dortmund, 1988)

Another one from a DVD. At least an official release though, although not in DVD format. The Lovesexy Dortmund show was pro-shot and officially released on VHS back in the 80's. No official DVD release as of yet, but some excellent fan-converted bootleg DVD's with great menu's. This short 1 and a half piano version of Strange Relationship is mindblowing. Well worth seeing the video or DVD if you can find it, it's probably the pinnacle of Prince's entire career, live-show wise. Everyone who I have made a DVD for has been astounded by the show.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Prince & The Revolution - Purple Rain (Live from Syracuse, NY, March 30th, 1985)

Probably one of the most legendary performances of this song. 18m49 of one of the greatest songs ever and played by a band at the top of their game. Listen to the screams when Prince walks out on stage after the band have already been jamming the groove for 4 minutes with Wendy playing some incredible rhythm guitar. Then at 5 minutes 10 when he picks up his guitar and plays an absolutely incredible solo - this is before he's even sang a note of it! Then at 6 minutes something when he finally comes in with the vocal.....one of the best performances of one of the best songs ever. I could go on and on about this performance forever. Just when you think it couldnt get better, listen to the solo he pulls out at the 10 minute mark...and I promise your jaw will drop to the floor. I DARE you to get high and listen to this, it's like having a religious experience.

The only other version of Purple Rain that is as good as this one is it's live debut at First Avenue, MN with the additional verse which was Wendy's debut with the band and when the first few tracks which would end up on Purple Rain were played for the first time (including 'Computer Blue', 'Let's Go Crazy' and 'I Would Die 4 U")
-------------------------------------------------------------------

I'll be back tomorrow with more uploads.... if you're lucky.

/\ heh, I was wondering if you were still around coop. I have an amazing instrumental of 'The Holy River' with a guitar playing the vocal melody, and was debating whether or not to upload it in this thread or not. I ultimately decided against it for the moment.

Thanks for the strange relationship tune man, appreciate it. I saw a Dortmund '88 to get but could not see this song in the tracklisting so must have been a different concert date.

Dude i also just got the Paisley Park show with the Miles Davis 30 minute jam/medley. That is the hottest shit.

You have any of those rehearsal recordings where Prince yells at band members for fucking up?

Or "Wally"?

Hmm. Someone knows his information. ;) I have some great rehearsal recordings. There's one amazing rehearsal called "Billy's Sunglasses" from 1981 that's basically a 50 minute jam.

Nobody has 'Wally'. I wish I did have it - unfortunately it doesn't exist since Prince erased the entire song. Rumor has it he may have re-recorded it with different lyrics, but if he did, it's hasn't leaked.

Anyway, I'm about to post today's update.

BrownMark - Shall We Dance

One of my favorite Prince tracks of all time, even though it's sung by Brown Mark, the purple one wrote and produced it. Prince gave this track to bassist Brown Mark for his solo album after The Revolution broke up.
This track is funky as fuck.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Vanity 6 - Sex Shooter (original unreleased)

I was never really a fan of the released Apollonia 6 version, despite it being in 'Purple Rain' the movie. Apollonia ain't a great singer and the track was average. But, this version, I love. They planned to use this track on the second planned Vanity 6 album, then Vanity left and was replaced by Apollonia. Anyway, this original version has a different bass line and additional synth part which make all the difference. I can hear Prince on some adlibs in the middle of the song as well.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Prince & The Revolution - I Wonder U (original unreleased)

It's a rare occurence when Prince allows one of his associates to take the lead vocal on a track for his album. But, Wendy Melvoin was hardly your average Prince associate, and on 1986's 'Parade' she did indeed take the lead vocal on "I Wonder U". However, it was originally intended to be a duet between Prince and Wendy, and was recorded that way. Here is this original version, with both Prince & Wendy on the vocals.

Stay tuned for another update, possibly tomorrow.

gahh!! I just made a big ass update and got signed out and lost it. grrr... well here we go again....

I am going to post the live version of "If I Was Your Girlfriend" from the Sign O The Times movie, that 'Pac sampled for 'Thugz Get Lonely Too' - it is retail, but it's a retail DVD and the audio track by itself is not retail, and is considered a bootleg.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Prince - If I Was Your Girlfriend (live from Rotterdam, Sign O The Times Tour, 1987 - and included in Sign O The Times movie)

Yes, it's the version 'Pac sampled. Yes, it's an incredible performance. Need I say any more?
-------------------------------------------------------------------

Prince & The Revolution - Wonderful Ass (unreleased, from 1986)

Possibly the best unreleased Prince track? If it was put to a vote amongst Prince fans who have heard a lot of bootlegs, I'd put bets on this to win. The Revolution will be heard! Funky track, absolutely sick as hell, the sound of a band at the top of their game. I have a few alternate versions of this, including a 10 minute version and an early demo, but this 6 minute version is in better quality than the others.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Prince - If I Love U 2Nite (1987)

This is a track that pops up many times in Prince history. The earliest version I have of this song dates back to 1979, with then-keyboardist Gayle Chapman on lead vocals. Gayle left Prince's band in early 1980, prior to the 'Dirty Mind' album, to be replaced by Lisa Coleman. This track was never released, and in 1987, Prince recorded his own version.

Again, it was never released. Then, Prince offered it to soul singer Mica Paris for her 1991 release, and a vinyl test press promo was made, which accidentally included Prince's 1987 version as well, so that's how this got leaked. Then, in 1995, Prince's then-wife Mayte Garcia recorded a version for her album "Child Of The Sun", which was released that year. I personally think Mayte's version is the best version, so I've uploaded that one too.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Mayte - If I Love U 2Nite (1995)

See above.

Good thread, Mili, Fonz, I appreciate everything you've given me Prince-wise (even before this thread), but I think you need to just go ahead and upload every song you have from the Sign O' the Times movie. I'm really on that movie HARD these days, and although I love Purple Rain more as an album, that SOTT movie was the best concert I've seen in my life.

KanDeeMan, it will come my son...Militant thanks for the songs u've upp'd they good ones! ...good idea makin this thread i thought it would be good too since i know theres a few other Purple heads here

Prince - Electric Intercourse (Unreleased Purple Rain Outtake)
This is a live version of another highly recommended unreleased track, was made with Purple Rain in mind, i've heard a scene was even made with it but was ultimately cut from the movie...i wish they had of included it in the 20th Anniversary DVD...fuckors! on the other hand i wish i was in First Avenue when he played it along with Purple Rain for the first time

Prince - The Most Beautiful Girl in the World (Aftershow Brussel 1995)
A good instrumental version of the song, at first i was wishing Princey sung more in it, but i really like the music in this & its cool to hear the crowd sing the hook...i know i've upp'd this before butsome would have missed, but dont this time :thumb:

Prince - Little Red Corvette (Purple Rain Tour 1985-04-07)
A classic song & a well played Live version from the Purple Rain tour

Prince - The Cross (Lovesexy Tour, Osaka 1989-02-12)

The Cross, for KanDeeMan since i know you like the song...this whole concert has awesome quality...a great soundboard recording.

/\ which DVD did you rip that from? The Canadian remaster or the brazilian bootleg?

KanDee, I know you want it bad, but we're not going to up an entire bootleg CD in here...I'm just helping out with a few things, this isn't a free for all.

Fonzy, I haven't checked which version of Electric Intercourse you just uploaded, is it a rehearsal version or the First Ave 1983 debut?
