Marxman were a Marxist hip-hop group with two MCs. Their lyrics expounded socialism and an end to economic and social injustice. Their first single "Sad Affair" caused particular controversy for vocalling support for the republican struggle in Northern Ireland, predominantly led by Sinn Fein, the political wing of the then Provisional IRA.

The band was signed to Talkin' Loud/Polygram and A&M in the United States. Amongst their achievements The band performed their single All About Eve, a song portraying a tragic story of espousal abuse, on the BBC's popular music program Top of the Pops. Their second single Ship Ahoy guested the evocative vocals of Sin
