Martial Arts

i've been wanting to get into Brazilian jiu jitsu for a long time. i was at a competition one time and watched a dude spare who was an instructor Brazilian jiu jitsu and Capoeira. him and a friend were bringing the style to the midwet. they had classes at a college in illinois and in the st.louis university city area. Capoeira is what i would really like to learn. that shit looks hard as fuck

I've trained capoeira for about 7 months and it was THE best martial arts I've ever tried and trust me I've tried alot (karate, kung fu, judo etc). Capoeira is fun but exhausting. You have to be REALLY strong in your hands/arms cause you have to be able to carry your body. You'll have the best abs possible, 8 packs :). It's really fun too and you'll learn to do some freaky shit that you thought you'd never be able to learn.

If you have kazaa or whatever you use to download files, just download some capoeira shows and you'll see :)

EDIT; The reason I stopped was because of my limited time.

I love martial arts. I've studied it a lot. Although I take no classes, I train every day. I just do what I feel is most appropriate and works best. I train with some buddies of mine as well. It's advantagious I have a lot of equipment to work with.

Some of us often film boxing matches we partake in, I find that to be very fun and it builds up your speed and reaction time. Makes you always ready on your toes. Altough I love kicks. There's just so much you can do.

I think when you execute a particular move perfectly, it is just one of the best feels in this world. :)

wow..i didnt kno all these people took ma inhere.

i think some are selling wolf tickets but have an appreciation for the art form.any how unless you've trained for aleast 10 years minimum,
you are not gonna whoop 5 people on the street or do anything amazing.most people would get nervous.

when i was young i used to do Judo, already trained Muay Thay, its fucking tight, but im into Capoeira for a while, 3 years ... its great, i love it

edit: someone said that capoeira its more showy than usefull.
Its bulsshit in terms, if you are training Angola capoeira wich is slowly, and more dance and game then a fight yes, but Regional Capoeira, with a good practice and style, its very usefull, Im talking about fights, street fights, not competition style :thumb:

I took kenpo karate for six years, I got to black belt. It's pretty practical. They teach you the basics (regular blocks, punches, kicks, etc.), then there are techniques (a combination of those things to use in response to a certain type of attack), and the whole kata thing (more of a showy thing for tournaments). Toward the end of it, I took jiu jitsu, which is pretty cool for scuffles that lead to the ground. I stopped both to play football one year then wrestling a bit later on... unfortunately pretty much everything I learned in both styles of martial arts was illegal in both sports.

If you want to see kenpo, look for this movie called The Perfect Weapon (starring Jeff Speakman). It's from the early 1990s, it's alright for a low-budget karate flick.
