Making beats / making rhymes

1. Listen to/study great records
2. Go digging, find the samples that made up those great records, compare them to the final product
3. Learn to DJ aka play records that other people want to hear
4. Get your own records, get a sampler, and apply 1/2 while keeping 3 in mind.

1. Listen to/study great records
2. Hone the gift of gab by participating in ciphers
3. Learn to count bars

It seems like the process on both ends is one everyone (who makes it) independently discovering the same intangible quantities and then using observations on which applications of those quantities gets the best reaction to do it themselves.

The emphasis of that sentence is the word "independently".

How do you feel about that?

Fuck it:

"Dashboard for leverage, tall cans of beverage
The weed can make you courageous (Oh baby!)
Make a Honda Civic seem so spacious
Make five minutes seem like ages
Anyway..."

"Trust, devotion
Lust is like the sand where the beach meet the ocean
Soakin, felt joy in a whirlwind
Never ever did he mention boyfriend/girlfriend
Demanded her respect
Then ran and did a handspring, almost landed on her neck"

If I ever do something corny like fall in love and make her a compilation tape, the songs I'll think fit to put on there will end that type quick.

I don't even think you need to listen to great records to make them. Im sure a person with musical talents, who understood rhyming techniques, and other writing techniques, could produce some highly lyrical off-the-wall shit. I know poetry helped me a lot with structure/rhyming.
