What did everyone think? I've noticed a lot of backlash on Lost fansites about this season's finale, and while I agree that it wasn't the "best finale ever" that the creators were promising and hyping it up to be, the episode was still strong, very dramatic, and raised even more questions, which is what a show like Lost is supposed to do.
Here are my thoughts on the finale:
~SPOILER WARNING~
Desmond was the man in the boat (I did guess that right, but IMO it was a no-brainer), and his flashback was solid enough, if only because the guy who plays Desmond is a VERY good actor in the few episodes he's been in.
Jack, Sawyer, and Kate were captured by the Others, Hurley was let go, and Michael drove away in a motorboat w/ Walt. I didn't feel as angry with Michael as I think the writers wanted us to be, because when it came down to it, Michael cared about Walt more than ANYBODY. That being said, did anybody notice the look Jack was giving Kate at the end, a half-smile, menacing look, it was strange. Does he still have a plan? I wonder if sometime next season, the Others will turn Jack, Kate or Sawyer into one of them, or even more "out-there", did anybody get the feeling that Michael is going to make a rescue attempt sometime next season (if I were the writers, I'd bring him back the last ep. of Season 3, a Desmond-like move).
Locke destroyed the computer and let the clock run to zero, possibly killed himself, Eko (if Eko's dead, I'm rioting like a muthafucka), and Desmond, and all he could say at the end was, "I was wrong." Locke replaced Ana Lucia (she's gone now, so it doesn't matter) and Charlie as my least favorite character on the show when he said that. Desmond "sacrificed" himself, and while some people called his key-turning scene cheesy, it really struck home with me, and I thought it was well-done.
Go back to the episode "?", and listen to the sound in Eko's first dream when the room starts to shake, it was the same exact sound as what happened when Desmond turned the key, because of this, and him stressing how important it all was, I don't think Eko (or Locke) is dead, and I don't think the hatch blew up, either. I think the polarity reversed and shot the hatch door up into the air. Not to mention Charlie acted aloof and strange (concussion?) at the end, wouldn't he have acted differently if anybody died?
The Sayid side-plot was useless, even though I'm wondering WTF that four-toed foot statue was supposed to be about. Or the bird that did sound like it said "Hurley".
Finally, the final scene in the antarctic, the system failure set off another EMP, and those Portugese-speaking men were hired by Desmond's lady to find the EMP. I want to know, how does she know anything about it (the island, the giant magnet, the EMP), I thought it was a better cliffhanger than most gave it credit for.
I'll leave you all with my favorite line from the ep. Sawyer offers Hurley a "Dharma Nutri-Bar", Hurley says, "No thanks, I'm not hungry." Sawyer looks at him funny and says "You serious?!?" The look Hurley gave back was priceless.
"I'll see you in another life, brother." Another good line, peace.
