Film & TV Lost Finale

#1
What did everyone think? I've noticed a lot of backlash on Lost fansites about this season's finale, and while I agree that it wasn't the "best finale ever" that the creators were promising and hyping it up to be, the episode was still strong, very dramatic, and raised even more questions, which is what a show like Lost is supposed to do.

Here are my thoughts on the finale:

~SPOILER WARNING~

Desmond was the man in the boat (I did guess that right, but IMO it was a no-brainer), and his flashback was solid enough, if only because the guy who plays Desmond is a VERY good actor in the few episodes he's been in.

Jack, Sawyer, and Kate were captured by the Others, Hurley was let go, and Michael drove away in a motorboat w/ Walt. I didn't feel as angry with Michael as I think the writers wanted us to be, because when it came down to it, Michael cared about Walt more than ANYBODY. That being said, did anybody notice the look Jack was giving Kate at the end, a half-smile, menacing look, it was strange. Does he still have a plan? I wonder if sometime next season, the Others will turn Jack, Kate or Sawyer into one of them, or even more "out-there", did anybody get the feeling that Michael is going to make a rescue attempt sometime next season (if I were the writers, I'd bring him back the last ep. of Season 3, a Desmond-like move).

Locke destroyed the computer and let the clock run to zero, possibly killed himself, Eko (if Eko's dead, I'm rioting like a muthafucka), and Desmond, and all he could say at the end was, "I was wrong." Locke replaced Ana Lucia (she's gone now, so it doesn't matter) and Charlie as my least favorite character on the show when he said that. Desmond "sacrificed" himself, and while some people called his key-turning scene cheesy, it really struck home with me, and I thought it was well-done.

Go back to the episode "?", and listen to the sound in Eko's first dream when the room starts to shake, it was the same exact sound as what happened when Desmond turned the key, because of this, and him stressing how important it all was, I don't think Eko (or Locke) is dead, and I don't think the hatch blew up, either. I think the polarity reversed and shot the hatch door up into the air. Not to mention Charlie acted aloof and strange (concussion?) at the end, wouldn't he have acted differently if anybody died?

The Sayid side-plot was useless, even though I'm wondering WTF that four-toed foot statue was supposed to be about. Or the bird that did sound like it said "Hurley".

Finally, the final scene in the antarctic, the system failure set off another EMP, and those Portugese-speaking men were hired by Desmond's lady to find the EMP. I want to know, how does she know anything about it (the island, the giant magnet, the EMP), I thought it was a better cliffhanger than most gave it credit for.

I'll leave you all with my favorite line from the ep. Sawyer offers Hurley a "Dharma Nutri-Bar", Hurley says, "No thanks, I'm not hungry." Sawyer looks at him funny and says "You serious?!?" The look Hurley gave back was priceless.

"I'll see you in another life, brother." Another good line, peace.

<SPOILER ALERT>

<SPOILER ALERT>

the look jack gives kate at the end there is indeed intriguing. i don't think it looks like a menacing half-smile so much as it looks like he's had a mental breakdown though. it looks like he's just about to blow up a grenade in his pocket or something. i'm very curious as to what happens to them.

what i love about this show is that there's always something happening that stirrs what people believe is going on. for the longest time i was sure the button prevented some doomsday device from going off. then i was so sure it was just a mind game. then i thought, after having seen the blast door maps, that the stations around the island were all linked and if the correct events were triggered, this had something to do with the gates to heaven, hell, or maybe some dimensional gateway. now that the magnet thing has been confirmed, i'm a little disappointed. i was hoping the whole thing was a little bit more "mysterious". a little bit more surreal. then again, i'm pretty sure they did something on purpose to make people think that so they can surprise us yet again with something of epic porportions, only to knock us down again for even more surprises.

the show is mirrored in the character of henry gale - you can never know if what is being said is what is actually true. i love how it keeps changing. it's pretty much a fact that after the third season, there will be even more seasons. most people seem to hate how they are dragging this show out but on the contrary, i love it. i hope it goes on for like six or seven seasons.

The bird, the 4-toed foot (statue), the "black smoke"/monster and the "incident" that the Dharma tapes reference (that apparently prompted the whole issue of the button in the first place), still hold some otherworldly kind of mystery to them. Not to mention all the hallucinations and Eko's dreams. The island could have had some power that Dharma/Hanso tried to tap into, but couldn't control it (hence, the incident), so they built the button to supress it.

The show definitely has the talent to go on for seasons to come, but not if they keep scheduling it too near to American Idol. I say move it to Thursdays. ER used to dominate on Thursdays, it could be a winnable matchup to have Lost go against ER and Numb3ers @ 10:00.

I loved the finale, and I expected Lost fanatics to be angry, because it raised more questions, but they forgot that it also provided us with answers as well. Such as why the Plane crashed, How Desmond ended up on the island and what the button actually does.

I did notice the smirk Jack gave Kate, and I'm wondering 5 things

-Apparently the Others are "the good guys."
-Are Locke, Eko and Desmond dead?
-Is Michael leaving with Walt a big 'ol trap, because Desmond couldn't leave, so how could Michael and Walt?
-What is going to happen with Jack, Sawyer and Kate?
-What was with the last 3 minutes?

i was high when i watched it so i actually dont quite remember what the last three minutes was about. was this when charlie was acting weird?

i always thought the "others" were like guardians for the gates to hell or heaven (like i talked about earlier), or something to that extent. now i'm not sure what i believe.

i very highly doubt that eko, locke and desmond are dead.

michael won't be a contracted regular next season, so i doubt he's running into a trap as well.

nest season ought to start like in september. there's gonna be like 6 or 7 episodes, then a 13 (thirteen) week pause before the rest of the season continues.

the key makes "it all go away." one can only guess as to what that means. the impression i got was that the facility would physically self-destruct, as in turn into rocks and debris, if the key was turned, but the white light and humming sound at the end of the episode kind of declined that. it makes it "all go away" somehow, so don't expect to see any button pushing in season 3. the producers have shut the door on the hatch. figuratively speaking roofle.

Sorry to re-up the thread again but i only watched the last episode last night.

SPOILER WARNING

Did anyone else notice when that Desmond dude was having his flashbacks of his time in the hatch , when he was chilling with that other old dude , he was actually painting on the wall? , it was the map that Locke saw. Pretty interesting . Also , what the fuck was up with the shoot that took the notebooks away , when Locke and Eko found it , why didnt they try and check where it went?

Btw the old dude was the guy who gave Sayid orders to interrogate that particular guy in one of his flashbacks. To the all the people talking bout Jack's perculiar smile at the end , i think its because he prob had a premeditated plan , remember , Jack knew before he left with michael , Sayid told him he might be going into a trap.

as for finding out where the tube leads, how would they go about doing that? it goes into the wall and disappears into wherever, they wouldn't be able to follow it when it's that far under the ground.

jack was probably cocky and figured sayid was coming.
