Man spends years on jigsaw with missing piece

An 86-year-old UK man who spent eight years working on a massive jigsaw puzzle has been horrified to discover a single piece is missing.

Jack Harris had recently completed the 5000-piece jigsaw puzzle, which he received as a Christmas present in 2002, when he realised a piece in the centre had disappeared, the Daily Mail reported.

After scouring the house to find the piece, Mr Harris's family contacted the puzzle company to try and obtain a spare, only to be told the jigsaw had been taken out of production.

Mr Harris's daughter-in-law Eve said she bought the puzzle for him specifically as a challenge.

"We got him this one as a bit of a joke really, because he always boasted he could get them done so quickly — he's a bit of a whiz with them," she said.

"When we saw there was a piece missing from the middle, we just couldn't believe it."

The family fear the missing piece has been thrown away by mistake or eaten by one of Mr Harris's pet dogs.

maybe he could find another on like ebay... and then start looking for the missing piece in the new box.
And that piece turns out to be missing in that box too. He has to examine 4,999 pieces to discover that 8 more years later. It turns out it was all a trick to keep the old man alive by giving him a purpose in life.
