Film & TV List Of 2005's Cancelled Shows

#22
The Contender will never be brought back, which is a damn shame. I LOVE boxing, and it was nice to see hungry fighters, most of whom never got a fair shot, get a chance to be on tv, too bad nobody watched. This country doesn't care about boxing anymore, that's why Cinderella Man flopped already. The only reason Hilary Swank won an Oscar last year for Million Dollar Baby was because of the talent in the film, not because of what the film was about.

The Contender was a touching show, sure I would have rather liked a setup kind of like the UFC reality show, with two bosses per side (Leonard/Hagler anyone?), but I got to see fighters I saw on Friday Night Fights then never see again be on this show, which was kinda cool.

Actually theres good news for this show, ESPN is considering picking it up again, so that should brighten your spirit. :)

The production values for the show would be dramatically lower than the $$$ NBC could put up, but that's not what the show was about. Changes I'd like to see if it went to ESPN are the showing of the whole fights (the cuts were nice for network TV, but since it's on a sports channel, show the fight in it's entirety), punch counts, ala CompuBox stats (which would have helped in the final match, especially), and get Sly out of there, replace him with Hagler or Hearns.

Where'd you hear this, anyway?

The contender is just starting here and it already seems to be a great show, i can't believe nobody watched it there. I like it dispite I'm not a boxing fan, but I think I must be the only person who watches it here.

I wish they would've given Tru Calling a chance. You're right that the networks don't give these shows a chance. Seinfeld would've been canceled today too.
