She realised Tupac was special and gave him a name to suit that. Tupac isn't a muslim name.

A lot of Panthers changed from their slave names to African names. Shakur was popular and she got it from Mutulu. There was also Assata and Zaire and others. She changed his name when he was like a week old or something I think.
