Kanye snaps ligament in Sydney

Kanye West snapped a ligament and chipped a bone in his ankle whilst performing at The Hordern Pavillion in Sydney, March 26th.

West apologised to Australia for his performance in an interview with Rove McManus, an Australian talk show host who chairs the popular show Rove Live. West said he is now forced to perform “like a regular rapper” who just stands on stage and raps when speaking to McManus - the Australian equivalent to Conan O Brian or Jonathon Ross.

West commented that dirt marks could be seen at the top of the Nike tick on his shoe in his attempt to explain the nature of the incident. The mishap occurred when jumping around in the dark, and consequently he was unable to perform popular songs such as ‘Diamonds Are Forever’ and ‘Jesus Walks’. Concert goer Aleisha Valdie said “[Kanye West] kept apologising for not jumping around on stage.”

Despite currently being in Australia, West opted to participate in the interview through a television link instead of joining the studio appearance. He rarely made the host or audience laugh in what was predominantly an awkward interview where West seemed reluctant to speak openly.

He refused to provide details on the first rap song he ever wrote which, according to his mother, was titled ‘Green, Eggs and Ham’ - his main response was “Damn, you guys do your research out here.” And when asked about plans for his debut feature film, West merely provided a one word answer confirming the projects existence.

However, in an out of character comment not typical of West’s usual confident disposition, he admitted he is not always so sure of himself: the luke-warm reception to his latest video has caused him to evaluate recent decisions. Although went on to justify this as his latest inspiration to work harder.

With minimal humour in the comedic show, Rove McManus got the last laugh by closing the interview with “Look out for the Quentin Tarentino directed Kanye movie, ‘Green Eggs and Ham”.

Kanye West performs at the Sydney Opera House April 2nd.
