i just bought a 90 civic si with a b16. i can drive fine aside from my shifting being rough. but i still cant launch from a hill. any tips? id appreciate it

I think at first I'd just rev higher and let the clutch out slower on big hills, now it's like natural so I'm not too sure how I did it. Sorry, I think what I first said is right.

It's hard to explain how to do it, but what ARon said is probably the best way to go. But don't just let the clutch out slower, let it out slightly later too. And don't freak out if the car begins to slowly roll back since if you keep playing with the clutch and gas the car will move anyway and realistically only roll back like a foot.

What some people do to train themselves is take the car onto an incline, typically a driveway, and balance the car and get it to crawl up using ONLY the clutch. This will give you much more delicate left foot control.

^Yeah cus now I kind of feather the clutch so that makes sense. Putting it on a driveway or an empty road is a good idea too, doin it over and over will of course teach how to do it.

iight thanks. i gotta practice for sure. for now im using the ebrake. but hopefully i can get rid of them training wheels soon :D

Being delicate with the clutch is the way to go. After all it's experience that teaches you the best. What worked/works for me is letting the clutch come up right up to the point where it engages. You'll feel it in the car, it lunges forward slowly a bit.

Whatever you do, using e-brake a lot beats going up the hill with a slipping clutch and 4000 revs. In fact, I always use the e-brake with most little inclines where you really have to bring the car to a dead stop. No roll beats a little roll, especially when a lot of people crawl up close to your rear bumper. Rolling into the car behind you is quite embaressing.
